Hard drive Died ?please help

Hey guys, I have a 250 gig internal maxtor drive ATA and it has recently become completely useless I can't format it in leopard or in windows. What happens is it will say it cannot format it the partition table is unreadable or the hard drive itself is an unreadable format? I'm not quite sure how to fix this I've tried everything I know of.

Please if anyone knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate the help.

Download the Gparted liveCD and boot from it. I don't know if this will work on a Mac (you said Leopard) but if it does, then go devices --> Set new disklabel.

Then try to reformat.
