Aqua-Soft ForumsI have a 1 1/2 yr old HP desktop and it's been working fine ..no problems. It wanted to add Microsoft updates and said comp. needs to shutdown and to use shutdown instead of restart shutdown to add these updates. So I went to start... shutdown comp... The comp. shut as normal. But when i tried to power it back up there is no power. Even with the comp. off there is a light that show you have power. This light isn't on either. So I un plug the comp and tried another outlet still nothing. I let the comp. set overnight because i thought it might be hot which it wasn't.. I tried to turn it back on still no power to comp. Any suggestion. Thanks...
Comp. Power problem
Unplug your machine, and hold your power button for 20-30 seconds. Then plug it back in and try powering it back up again.
I'll give it a try. I'm at work now but i'll call home and hve my wife to give this a try.... Thanks.. I'll get back and let you know if this work.
Tried the above and it didn't work. any other suggestion
If you still have garanty, bring it to the service, otherwise, try to open it carefully take out the small battery for about 20 secs an then put it back in,
Reseting CMOS (which is what 'taking out that little battery' does,) probably won't fix your (assumingly) PSU problem, all it will do is fiddle with BIOS and delete everything in the BIOS' configuration, putting everything at its default...
CMOS/BIOS really has nothing to do with the PSU, which seems to be the problem... since you said the light in the back doesn't light up when you plug it in.

Ok here's where I'm at.... I unplugged the comp. from outlet. Held in power button for about 30 sec pluged back in still nothing. Did same thing turn switch on back of power switch the 115 watt or 2??? something and switched back and forward. set back to where it's suppose to be . Tried again still nothing. Took off cover of tower unplugged each device one at a time Mother board CD/DVD drive etc.. just to see if one of these could be a problem. Still nothing. Tried new power cord and used another outlet which is working on other thing light a light ...etc..... What do you think.
Is there any way you can check the power supply with a ohms meter without taking it to a comp repair place. Also I call HP and they won't help me because the warrt. has been over a year..by 2 mo's... Go figure...Thanks HP.....Thanks again for all that is helping
If you have access to a spare PSU, you could try to switch and check if it then works. Just to be sure...you haven't blown a fuse for a particular set of power switches?

EDIT: Disregard the fusepart. After rereading your post I saw that your other outlet in fact worked.
Are there fuses in the comp. if so, how would I late them..

Lol, no fuses in your comp...fuses for your power in your house:). Sometimes you see the fusebox divided into several groups e.g. one for bedroom and livingroom, one for outdoors lights, one for stoves etc. etc.
