My question is, does anyone know how to set a delay for some time or to directly select a thumbnail for videos?

Make sure have the codecs to run the videos, and then simply change Explorer to Thumbnail mode?
I've had a look at this myself, and short of decompiling various windows files, there isn't a way. Annoyingly, Vista sorted this out but I mean, bleh. Who wants to move to Vista.
Doesn´t work for me. Not even wmv.
Another way than narfmaster mentioned is to edit the video in e.g. moviemaker or something similar to delay the frame. You would have to delete the black frame and save the file again. But I would say thats a bit much of a hazzle for one seconds delay.
