Does the UXTheme Patch thingy

Work for Vista?

Just wanted to make sure.

You need a version of the file that works for Vista, you can't use the same XP one. Likewise, if you upgrade Vista with the newly released SP1, you will have to repatch the UXtheme.

Here is a repository of UXtheme files, for several versions of Windows. I suggest you find some help on Neowin in swapping it out. Unfortunately, the information in this thread seems to apply to XP only.

Or you could use TuneUp Utilities 2008 for patching Vista.

Or....you could use Windowblinds, get more features, more security since you don't have to patch or hack any files, and will continue to work no matter what Windows Update does.

You can use vistaglazz to patch uxtheme.dll file. I have used it. its working fine.

Unzip your custom theme files to "C:WINDOWSResourcesThemes" directory.

For example:

downloaded a theme by name theme1

unzip it into a folder by name theme1 into "c:windowsresourcesthemestheme1" and your theme1 directory should have .msstyles file and shell folder.

Once you have installed your theme properly open desktop properties your theme should be displayed here. Vista doesn't use proper theme names for custom installed themes. It displays them as "Windows Aero" or "Windows Vista Basic". you can hack them by using DeskHack

Even you can double click .msstyles file it will be opened in desktop properties.
