ObjectBar Systemtray Shortcuts

now i am not sure if this is possible but currently i am using shortcuts and hiding my system tray, but with the shortcuts i dont have the same functionality e.g. with the windows live messenger shortcut which ive linked ti msnmsg.exe when i right-click i dont get all the functionality like in system tray, there is no sign-out option or exit or view inbox. shit like that. and so what i guess im trying to say is

IS THERE A WAY TO MAKE OBJECTBAR SHORTCUTS AS FUNCTIONAL AS THEIR SYSTEM-TRAY EQUIVALENTS?

You can add a system tray equivalent to OB where all normal systray icons with all the proper context-menus are displayed. It's usually present by default in most themes I've seen. Which theme are you using?

i know what u mean, but i have hidden the system tray. i am using Leopard_Perfect or Perfect_leopard one of the 2 anyway, i have tried to change the system tray icons to the mac equivelent but when i do this it comes out really tiny, and when i do it with shortcuts it looks alot more realistic, like it inverts the icon with mouse over and the icons are the right size

ill show you what my desktop looks like atm

the menu u see is my system tray, but the icons in the area where the system tray is supposed to be are my own shorcuts, and i want to make these shortcuts as functional as their OB equivelent

That´s the bad thing about OB. It looks good, but you cannot really use it, according to ther systemtray. I use Finderbar and tclock for that reason. If you change the system icons that are in the tray, you have nearly the same look as in leopard (yes...spaces) but it is functional like it should.

When you open a new app in windows the OB will not add the icon to the tray, it´s just too static.

Try using this OB,just edited all the bmp you need,and edit that system try from this OB,I use this OB since it released and make many copy for other skin/them

wait, just to make sure that i understand you correctly...

if you mean your systray (with the open apps) running ALONG the main bar, together with the commonly seen iChat, volume, and Airport icons? Yes, possible. You can also replace the default open app icons with customized (monochrome/black like Mac), and also the space between these open app icons. right-clicking them will enable their respective context menus. you can also contract/expand the systray...

on the other hand, if you have your systray in or as a dropdown menu (and not along the top bar), it will also behave like a normal systray (functioning context menus etc).

If you created your own systray- like dropdown menu (with only the icons displayed), those icons will only function as, well, shortcuts (if you configured them correctly). no application context menus etc.

By the way, some OB themes have the systray container removed (i haven't found a way to re-open them)... Check carefully the themes you download. check out Husaini HB's link...

lol the problem i am having is that when i open the system tray and replace their icons with things like iChat and airport, the icons come out funny, i have these icons i got from a guy which give the effect exactly like a mac where the icons look embedded into the bar, but when i replace the system tray icons, they are really small, HERE IS AN EXAMPLE and its not like the icons i am using are that tiny they range from 16x16 to 32x32. and so this is why i am using shortcuts because when i use shortcuts the size of the icons turn out fine

so theres my problem

weird... checked out iMetal theme ported by Mrsste (as it has the systray along the bar). no problems whatsoever- changing icons, context menus etc. Maybe you should change OB themes? if the same issues persist, your OB might be the problem. btw, what's your version of OB? are you on vista/vista sp1? what?

im on Windows XP SP2 umm running OB 1.65 Build 635 hope that helps lol, yehh i might try a different OB theme, lemme try iMetal ill see what happens

i tried it with that OB theme and the icons still come out small, mayb its the icons, does anyone have any of the Leopard system tray icons the 1s which make the icons look embedded in the toolbar, if you do i might try those to see if it is the icons or OB or something else

Best thing to do is to use OB's system tray, and not to emulate something with just shortcuts. That is, for those special apps that you absolutely need to access via system tray. Anyways, if the Icons don't suit you, you can change them manually via reshack or something. I use axialis Iconworkshop to change a few. Just replace the icons embedded in the proper exe or dll.

have you tried changing the icons this way? no reshacking needed. Just look for the appropriate black systray icons...there are some mac/black systay icon packs released/posted here at AS...

there are threads here at AS regarding systray icons, leopard ones. you just have to search for it. If you're not satisfied (as they are in .ico, you can always create them yourself, although i wonder how much detail can you cram into a 16x16 px .bmp image?, and color black at that!

yes true, the thing i find is that i cannot replicate the beveled look very well in a .ico but it works fine in a .bmp :S dunno why

it is actually fairly easy. beveled look at 16 x 16 px resolution is basically a black/dark image with a very light/white shadow - assuming that you have a light colored bar e.g. default leopard's pinkish one.

First, prepare a transparent image canvass, let's say 64x64. create your image, colored black. compress/resize your image to 16 x16. make a copy. invert the color (to white...) of the duplicate. move the original black image over the white one, offset 1 px right and 1 px down. save entire image as .png. then open the file with an icon editor (e.g. IcoFX) as a 32-bit image with alpha transparency. save as .ico. that's it.
