My first BSoD on XP

That, my friends, is my first Blue Screen of Death I've ever gotten on that laptop with Windows XP. First EVER.

Circumstances:

I was playing a high-demand video game, on battery power. I had about 15% battery left so I went over to jack it all back into my desk.

Keep in mind, this thing is only once in a blue moon taken from that desk. It's hence been turned into a server... literally 18 USB devices, various external hard drives... a whole load of crap.

And tonight was one of those blue-moon nights.

So as I go back to practically tie my laptop back to my desk, I plug in the 4 USB hubs containing all the USB devices I have plugged in, then I get to my second external hard drive.

And... whack. BSoD.

So really, it wasn't the laptop's fault. She's been strong and hasn't gotten a single hiccup until now, considering what I put her through .

Sad, my uptime was pushing 116 days

Oh, and I lost all the 100,000,000 Unique IVs I've been collecting from various WiFi networks around my home... over the course of the last 9 days.

ohh heck, i'll dismount my high horse. I used to get BSODs heaps on my old pc, but then i rebuilt it and installed sp2. All has been honky dorey since.

Guess it all depends on how old/new your hardware is... with one exception- I managed to BSOD my macbook pro running windows with bootcamp.

This was in the days of the bootcamp beta... I went to run the inbuilt "iSight Camera" and it BSOD every time. Why? because bootcamp didnt contain the driver for it at that time.

its all drivers really.

Back when this particular machine ran Vista, it BSoD'd like no tomorrow. 6 times out of 10, when I tried to plug in my iPod, whenever I attempted to close more than one program at once, with a grace period of 10 seconds . Guess it was an asthmatic, eh?

There were also dozens of times where it would just be sitting idle across the room, with the screensaver going, and just BSoD because it felt like it.

Eventually I got tired of Vista's problems and put XP Pro SP2 on it. Haven't had a problem wiith -- err, until now, I guess.

I'm wayyyy ahead of you, buddy. My 360 RROD'd me about 4 months ago. It was the core version, back when it was on sale, with the hard drive, XBLive, 2 controllers, Memory Card all purchased seperately.

I've sent that to and from Microsoft, it's hunky dorey. But, I also purchased another one about 3 1/2 weeks ago, liking the hardware revisions.

I ordered my new camera about 4 hours ago. Once it gets here I'll take pictures of the tortured one, and the new one (which is the base 360 model, one step below the elite.)

Man.. I'm still waiting for my first BSOD. Maybe that's why I haven't bought a mac yet... as much as I want a macbook, me and windows have been getting along great for the past 7 years. Haven't had a system crash/freeze for 3 years, never ever a hardware incompatibility. A software crash every once in a while.. but that's mostly the software's fault anyways.

Oh my friend has the same laptop. If you have not changed any hardware then i think.

The laptop is pretty. Its only that my friend hasnt got anything like the screen of death. Again nt ignoring the fact that he doesn't have that many devices connected when he is opened up some app or game which is soo high on resources. So he hasnt recieved anything like this since 3 years . That is how much time he owns the laptop i think.

XP x64 hasn't given me a BSOD till now, and XP gave me only two or three BSODs due to certain driver conflicts.

However, I installed Windows 98 on VMware yesterday, and all it seems to be able of is to flash a blue screen every now and then. To think that I once used to sacrifice Xp at 98's altar, :shudders:
