The LCD on my laptop isn't displaying colors right. The overall colors are "yellowish". Like I'll look at white and I won't be looking at pure white, but it's a little yellow. Is there a way to rectify this?
Will programs like Adobe Gamma work? Or is there some program to maybe brighten the lcd so I can see pure white.
what kind of graphics card do you have?
Probably a crappy one, it comes with the laptop. S3 Savage or whatever.
But I don't think it's the video card, maybe the lcd just sucks.
Yeah, its probably the LCD. Sometimes its the LCD itself, many LCD's have a yellowish tinge. The newer LCD's are better.
And if your laptop is old, then that could very well be the culprit, because LCD screens get dim and yellow with age.
Ugh, that sucks. So can I fix this? Or do I have to endure yellowish Panther :nuts: for the rest of my life (or until I get a new laptop)?
ok listen very carefully:
I have this too, and have thought of something years ago that I still use to fix this.
If your display properties ---> advanced ... has a color tab you can adjust the rgb manually.
Set up dual display, with secondary being tv. enable output to both screen simultaneously and move your laptop right next to the tv screen...... set your tv's colour to be nice and colourful.... then select primary screen->advanced >colour, you should see a colour chart, a diagonal (SW to NE) line, and three letters R G and B.
and set the red channel and the blue channel exactly 1mm to the NW (45degrees), so that the r and B diagonal lines change into a slight arc,.. experiment and use your output on your tv as a reference. Click apply. (make sure your RGB adjustments do not also change the colours on the TV screen, as this would defeat it's purpose as a comparision source)
And presto a much brighter normal cooler colour screen.
Then if you want, go to registry search for red, or gamma, and find the key that holds the now new values of your RGB, and write down the numerical values somewhere. So that if you format or accidentally go to the same screen and hit default and apply by accident, you wont need to sit infront of your tv for 3 hours again, getting the lcd colours perfect again.
All Ati cards no matter how old have this colour tab. Except if you are using the stock drivers on the xp cd, which you should have updated long ago.
If your card doesn't, try new drivers, search the net for your videocard and the words red green blue and gamma, see what you find.
If all else fails download powerstrip and change your screen temperature to 7500 or 9400 (i.e. allthe way to cool blue), however this wont give you as good and bright a result as the method above.
Also note that both methods will not change the look of a completely white (255 255 255) lcd screen, that yellow tinge will remain, but will be much less evident as your blues will no longer have a yellowish tinge but will be cool bright blue.
