I think I know what you're getting at... cheeky.
I've put a fair bit of time into Apophysis lately... to try and figure out the parameters and the rendering limits of my hardware. The above pic took eight hours to render.
I'm no expert on the soft but I think I'm getting quite good, consistant results. It's a question of patience and a little luck. Some renders which took a good deal longer I've had to bin.
