Apple today released the much-anticipated 1.1.4 update for the iPhone and iPod touch. The new software/firmware update is available via iTunes; Apple is vague on details but says that the update "includes bug fixes and supersedes all previous versions" of the earlier firmware. A preliminary investigation of the update by MacNN does not reveal any new features, although the upgrade is believed to be necessary for Apple to implement its upcoming software development kit (SDK) for third-party apps and is likely to patch software exploits used to jailbreak or unlock the devices for use with unsanctioned code.

1.1.4 has already been jailbreaked with Ziphone.

The site says it works, but they would like to do more testing before they say it's 100%.

Users at Mac Rumors have already reported that Ziphone 2.4 can jailbreak 1.1.4 without bricking their phones.

That's insane! In only a few hours? Kick ass.

More like, they didn't change anything other than said "Bug Fixes", thus the Jailbreaking method is not fixed. Thy didn't successfully Jailbreak the new firmware, more-so, it already works.

If only one of the processes would successfully jailbreak my iPod touch!

That is true Wiz... Apple didn't "plug the hole" that Ziphone used to jailbreak 1.1.3, so the method still works on 1.1.4

Is a quite big update, I think theres already something like a "switch" for showing the new options which will be available after sdk-release

#492916

They're all big.

From 1.1.1 to 1.1.4, each one has been roughly 160MB.

All 160MB are not changes, Apple just repackages the entire OS with the updates and drops the whole thing on the phone. The actual changes are only a few MB in size.

1.1.1 - 155MB

1.1.2 - 163MB

1.1.3 - 165MB

1.1.4 - 165MB

Phew... why they just can't download needed files? oO

@iGo is this just for iPhone?

#492935

Most of it looks likes apply to iPhone... Still couldn't find confirmation about drag n drop support for iPod touch. Wifi and Safari fixes should apply both iPhone and iPod touch.

#492938

Wait, are you saying that you have Disk Mode on your iPhone?

I noticed zero to no change on my iPod touch with 1.1.4.

#492940

- Drag & Drop files using Windows Explorer

Unless I'm missing something new about it, it's been there since 1.1.1

It's not disk mode, it just allows you to get pictures OFF of your iPhone via Windows Explorer.

You still cannot write to the iPhone.

Safari still crashes on basic sites. But this update is welcomed nonetheless!
