Aqua-Soft ForumsThe Ubuntu have decided to call Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. In order to maintain the long going tradition of giving each new release version a two word name - an adjective followed by an animal they decided to give it this rather queer name.
Ibex - The goat with a head for heights; Ibex is a wild goat that lives high up in the mountains from China in Asia to the Alps in Europe.
Intrepid Ibex would be finally released on October 2008, but would be preceded by Ubuntu 8.04 code named Hardy Heron that would be launched in April 2008.
“Hardy is our best development cycle yet, delivering on our promise of reliability and stability for the Heron. We must stay focused on that goal. To the extent that you have a brilliant idea for the future, you now have a peg to hang it on - the Intrepid Ibex. When the Hardy Heron has taken flight we will engage fully with the Ibex. Give it horns! “
