Installation problems, Objectdock and Vista

Hello to everyone.

First off, thanks for the great little piece of software...at least it looks great. I can't seem to get it installed.

I've downloaded the zip file, and I've extracted it to several different directories.

When I extract it to objectdockdocklets, I can attempt to "add" a sysstats docklet when right-clicking on the dock. However, doing so simply crashes objectdock.

What am I missing here? I've read the wiki and googled for about an hour without any luck. If anyone can offer me assistance, I would appreciate it.

There are a couple of DLLs that need to be loaded so you may need to restart OD, or failing that, Windows itself.

Are you sure that the version of OD you have is Vista 'friendly'?

I reccomend to search/browse the WinCustomize forums as there are quite a few threads about Vista & OD...

Just making sure about your file locations (I'm concerned about your comment: "I've extracted it to several different directories").

First I recommend you close OD then 'clean up' (as best as possible) the previous unzips.

There's a 'docklets' folder in the SysStats ZIP file which is intended to be copied over the objectdockdocklets folder. Unzip it over the top.

Then there'll be the files: SysStatsCOM.dll & hook.dll also in the archive ('next to' the docklets folder) and they're intended to live in the main objectdock folder. Do that.

Restart OD & see how you go. Restart Vista if the previous step didn't help.

In XP is was possible to run the regsvr32 command to manually register the DLL's if they were being difficult. Don't know if it still exists in Vista...

I'm having the same problem. I've verified that all the files I need are in the correct location, I copied them over with OD closed, restarted OD, then tried to add the SysStats docklet and OD crashed. I did a restart and the same thing.

I'm running Vista Home Premium x64, I'm willing to bet that this is an x64 issue and bg1256 is also running x64. Any ideas? is there any hope for me getting this to work?

(I just bought a new laptop, this is my first foray into vista and also stardock products, but I would like to help troubleshoot this if anyone more knowledgeable can help)

I am facing a similar situation... I have two machines (a laptop and a desktop) both with Windows Vista Ultimarte 32 bits and Object Dock Plus |.90a.

I have installed Systats 2.5.11 in both machines... while the desktop works without problems, the laptop simply crashes OD whenever I add a Systats docklet.

Alhough both machines have different HW configurations, both have (almost) the same SW installed. I have jet not found any source of the failure in the laptop.

Does anyone has been able to troubleshoot this?

try this:

close objectdock, run objectdock as administrator, then add the sysstats docklet.

this worked for me, you need only do it once, then after this it should function normally whether you run as administrator or not.

Unfortunately starting OD as an administrator did not work with me... still one computer works, the other one will not

Try this:

Right-click on the ObjectDock app (Objectdock.exe) and choose Properties.

Select the compatibility tab. Check the "Run this program as an administrator" box.

Now click the "Show settings for all users" button just below the "Run this program as an administrator" box.

On the page that pops up, also check the "Run this program as an administrator" box.

Now run Objectdock by directly launching the Objectdock.exe file (as opposed to running it from a shortcut or the start menu). It should run normally. You can then add your Systats docklets without crashing.

When you're done, exit Objectdock. Go back to the properties and uncheck BOTH "Run this program as an administrator" boxes. This is important, as leaving these checked will prevent Objectdock from starting automatically with Windows.

NOTE: If you already have systats docklets on your dock (as in maybe you were running Objectdock under XP and upgraded to Vista), you'll need to edit your CurrentTheme.ini to remove all the systats docklets (located in C:Users(YOUR USERNAME)AppDataLocalStardockObjectDockPlus) before you launch Objectdock.
