Some ITunes questions ...

Hi there! I'm a thesis student at a Canadian university and I'm looking for regular iTunes (or any other online music store) users that would be willing to answer some questions for me. I'm doing some research into what people find particularly displeasing about the process of purchasing online music. If anyone could please answer as many of the following questions as possible I'd be VERY VERY pleased! :)

(If any further information would be needed for you to reply, just ask)

THE QUESTIONS:

What do online music purchases offer you that CDs, cassettes and other forms of packaged music cannot?

Do you ever purchase packaged music? If so, why?

Is there anything you feel is absent from the process of purchasing online music?

Which online music store(s) do you use? How satisfied are you with their method(s) of selling music? Why?

What are your feelings on DRM protected music?

Yeah sure, I don't mind. Let me know if you'd like me to expand on any of these.

What do online music purchases offer you that CDs, cassettes and other forms of packaged music cannot?

The scale and variety of the music available is a big one. Being able to have any music I want within a few clicks rather than trekking into town. Yay for laziness! I also like the ability to just chose a few songs from an album rather than buying a CD for a limited number of songs that I may actually listen to. Paying per song is much more tailored for my needs.

Do you ever purchase packaged music? If so, why?

If it's an artist that I like and support, or if there's something special along with the CD such as a DVD etc.

Is there anything you feel is absent from the process of purchasing online music?

Transferring over from Vinyl to CD made me lose the fuzzy feeling that I get out of putting a record on the deck and placing the head, but moving from CD to downloads... not so much. All my music gets played off iTunes or my iPod and I end up with racks or boxes of CDs that just gain dust after I've ripped them to my computer.

Which online music store(s) do you use? How satisfied are you with their method(s) of selling music? Why?

Solely iTunes- I've had an iPod for some time and as such am not so bothered about how the DRM locks it to iTunes and iPods. Not so keen on the current price but there's an upcoming price drop in the UK which will be kinder to my bank account. Might also look at Amazon's store if it comes out in England.

What are your feelings on DRM protected music?

Yarr boo sucks. Not such an issue now as I said above, but when I had a Creative Zen it wasn't fun.
