Pippin V2? Far out, dude.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. As you may know, loose rumours have been going around a potential new game console/device from Apple since 2006, but now it seems like those rumours are intensifying.

They seem to be fuelled by a recent patent extension from Apple (1, 2), and an assumption that Apple will want to capitalize on their multitouchscreen technology, potentially in the form of a touchscreen gaming device.

I've always laughed at these rumours, but deep inside I wouldn't be surprised if Apple came up with a handheld gaming device using the same touchscreen tech as the iPhone. Where the games are going to come from is anyone's guess.

Please chip in.

I own the original Pippin, but no games for it >_>.

If Apple made another gaming device, it should be a handheld, a hybrid of the Nintendo DS and Sony's PSP.

I can imagine it now, a PSP-looking device with a touch screen, huge flash memory, intense gaming graphics, and everybody drooling over it :D

Even if Apple went into the console market, there still wouldn't be any games for it. :P

If it means I can buy and play Metal Gear Solid and Zelda games on one system, yay! Go for it!!! If not, screw it.

In other words, we don't need another stinkin' console just to add another library of exclusive titles. I'm sick of it.

I seriously doubt you'll be playing Metal Gear Solid and Zelda together on ANY console...this is just another attempt for Apple to come in late in the game and say, 'look at what we can do...ooo shiny'. This is if this ever comes to fruition, which I seriously doubt.

Am I the only one that thinks all this multi-touch nonsense is getting out of hand? Until they can get polymorphing surfaces which alter their shape according to the tool being manipulated then it's just another over-hyped input device. Give me tactile controls any day! Nintendo got it right with their DS - a touchscreen that doesn't steal the show.

And while I'm on my rant...what is with all this gizmos coming out that look as if they'll break if you sneeze on them? I remember back in the day, I could beat my brother with the NES controller* and it would still work.

*It only happened once and he had it coming... :P
