Austria the next to get the iPhone

[newsimg]http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8296/iphone34es0.jpg[/newsimg]The next country to receive the iPhone will be Austria, says the chief executive of T-Mobile. Hamid Akhavan announced the news on Tuesday, according to Reuters, explaining that iPhones would go on sale sometime within the first half of 2008. The release will be notable for two reasons: first by making Austria only the fourth country in Europe to officially adopt the Apple device, but secondly for giving the same carrier control in two separate regions. T-Mobile was the original non-American vendor of the iPhone, launching in Germany on November 9th. Over 70,000 units have been sold there to date. T-Mobile is owned by Deutsche Telekom.

Sorry Canada and Australia...and everyone else in the world...

You know what the real shame is, --it's yet available in Japan. Apple has to know that the iPhone in Japan will bring nothing but good for them.

One of these days, we will get an iPhone. Unfortunately, it will probably be this:

Congratulations to Austrian members here. But I have to wonder... how big can the Austrian market be? There are about 8.2 million people living there. If you use the same proportions as the US (4 million iPhones sold in a country of 301 million people), Austria will have sold 109,000 (roughly). Now, I understand that this isn't a great representation. But, to be honest, I can't see them selling more than that (and probably less).

Maybe people in Austria also want to own an iPhone lol :P. They won't sell that much though

Hehe, I am from Austria, if I've got the money I would get one ^^

Austria... they need to count our friend "AL" in... ="Australia".

Wow, this is so ridiculous.

Right above the U.S and Canada gets shafted once again. Although, maybe its Rogers that doesn't wanna come to terms or accept Apples stipulations of having the phone on their network. WHO KNOWS.....the only thing I know is that a lot.....A LOT of subscribers here would love this phone.

Rogers would make a BUTT-LOAD of revenue with new subscribers switching from other providers (Telus & Bell) to get their hands on this phone.

Here's to the continued wait for a Canadian release.

*wonders how many more countries will get it before we do*

Do what my "I have no money" brother did and drive to the nearest US store. He went to Buffalo.

No doubt lot's of people are doing that.

#491621

What is he supposed to use for service? That is, if he doesn't/didn't unlock it to use it with another carrier?

Just look at it and see how pretty it is! :P

Seriously though Rogers & AT&T are tied in so, I don't know what the hold up is.

hello!?... we might not be geographically above the US, but we're not some third world country down here in Australia!

It's simple, Levi. We're just more important then you :D

There are more people living in the metro Los Angeles area than the entire population of Australia.

No offense, but probably not high on Apple's list.

Austria kinda confuses me, but it's part of T-Mobile's service area, so it makes sense.

You guys in Canada are being screwed over right now.

I see no reason why you don't have it yet.

A simple google search

"xyz population=" reveals the facts;

Australia Population= 20,434,176

Canada Population= 33,390,141

Yes, Canada has more people. its basically a ratio of 2:3.

... I'd say we're reasonably high on Apple's list. We are not as outlandish as people make us out to be. Serious.

We have a good economy, a lot of people and a well established infrastructure in terms of transport and networks etc.

Which do you prefer more: the iPhone or the Blackberry?

Do they cover the same grounds?

Is one cheaper than the other?

Are they designed for different purposes/people?

I don't know much about either, so I'm not sure.
