New XP SP3 Build

"Yesterday, we released Windows XP SP3 RC 2 to private beta testers," the software maker said in a statement. "This release catches the build up on previously released hotfixes and responds to critical feedback from previous betas."

The software maker repeated that it plans to finalize the XP update by the end of June, but added its customary hedging that its "timing will always be based on customer feedback as a first priority."

The third (and perhaps final) service pack for Windows XP was originally expected as early as 2006, but was pushed back as the Windows team focused on getting Vista, and then Vista Service Pack 1, out the door.

Thats interesting. I've installed RC1, and despite the reports, I haven't seen much of a performance improvement.

Hmm.... I was planning to put RC1 today. But Ertai88, did u come across any issues otherwise? I'm guessing there shouldn't be any issue, as this is more-or-less cumulative updates rolled in one with couple of extra fixes. But just want to be sure.

Anyway, I'm not installing this on my own system . So I'll see how it goes.

i loved the Windows xp media center sp2 build (which was refered to by many as the Windows XP SP2.5)

I look forward to SP3, so long as its not too... Vista like. Although, a built in window search (as you type) would be nice.

But hey, its probably just going to be security and bug fixes.

i hope they change the default skin options a bi, thatd be nice...maybe have a modified zune msstyle as the default rather than that ugly blue thing not that it matters since i still use my custom msstyles

Awesome! Can't wait. Although, this is mainly just bug fixes and stuff.. they may be overhauling a few features or adding a new thing or two.

I have XP SP3 installed on all my PCs. Everything softwarewise works perfectly. Really the only difference Ive come to see is the SP3 branding. Otherwise its the same as SP2.

I dont mod windows, and Ive grown liking to the default luna theme.

really the only thing I miss from Vista is the start menu. I fell in love with that the first time I used it. If they put that in XP it would be great.

i installed the RC1 version and didn't notice anything different performance-wise either. but like many have said, i assume it is just going to be a lot of final bugs//errors that they're going to patch up. some new customization options and a "live search" kind of thing would be most welcome.

Surely Microsoft aren't going to be adding many new features to this SP, otherwise it'll provide the more reluctant of us who are happy with XP even less reason to upgrade to Vista.
