Disable Unnecessary Services

Below attached is the screenshot of my msconfig.exe, I'd like to know which of the services in the list can be turned off to increase my boot speed? :rolleyes:

Id personally have none of that running, I dont believe in ANtivirus and all that, but that is just me.

do a search ion the board or on google, I remeber there were a few sites (sorry didnt keep the links) where there was an extensive explanation about the services. You can disable a lot of them.

One site is Overclockersclub, an other can be found here.

Better ones are around, but I didnt find them that quick. Got to leave some work to you .

EDIT:

I do believe in Anti-Virus. If you find the performance go down with an AV installed, you can disable On-Access scanning. Most AVs allow that, though it is called different depending on the program. What I refer to is the automatic scanning of a file when it is accessed, or the automatic scanning of incoming eMail. You might as well set scanning to manual and do it whenever you receive new files and the like. Requires you to do actually do it - I found out that most people I talked to jst disabled scanning and just never did it because they were too lazy.

the most thorough services configuration tweak guide i've found. he tells you what each service does and gives you several configurations (e.g. safe, gamer, etc.) to choose from.

also get this, bootvis: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en

it'll speed up the boot process.

edit: i seem to have trouble using that link. just search microsoft downloads for bootvis.

dont turn off services that way, you'll mess up windows do it from the control panel

@dreamz: I heard from TweakXP.com, that Microsoft is having a new version of BootVis Tool which is updated for SP1 systems, but weird, on Microsoft's site, the BootVis Tool is temporary unavailable. :blink: I have the earlier version though, it's a useful and effective tool!

I was trying to improve my PC's boot speed. I use Y'z Dock and everytime I boot my PC, the dock always "show up" at the last minute, I'd like it be executed in the early boot process. I was thinking, maybe when the system boots up, it runs through all the .ini, services and it will handle stuffs I put into the StartUp folder in the end, am I right? That's why I wanna turn some Services off.

Yeaaah...BlackViper.com is very very helpful! :woot: I have browsed through the site and have disabled some Services...most of them are related to networks. Well..."so far" everything seems fine, I can watch .wmv and .asf videos with Windows Media Player, and I still can connect to eMule servers with a high ID. :shy:

Been using the Win9x versions of LitePC for quite some time now.

For XP it isnt out for long, have to be a registered user to get a beta.

You can disable file protection in other ways, anyway.
