Choices, Choices, Choices.

So, I've found myself stuck with ~$5000 to spend on a computer, and I have quite a few choices.

First, lets start with the laptops.

Of course, the MacBook Pro. For those who don't know, my older MBP's screen broke and I sold it scrap. So, fully the way I want it, these are the laptops I have on my mind.

---------------------------------------

Dell XPS M1530 ~$3800

  • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7800 (2.6GHz/800MHz FSB, 4MB Cache)
  • Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition (Of course, put XP Pro on it :))
  • High Resolution glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1680x1050) & 2MP Camera (stunning resolution)

And thats the third choice for laptops. The fourth is the MacBook Pro, but if I do get the MBP, then it will only be until after it gets updated/upgraded.

Tell me what you think on the above :).

PS: extra $$$ means either another cheap-o computer or more accessories.

shit man, how many computers you need anyways. go for the dell m6300.

#490454

Sorry I haven't updated on the latest in this thread....from the workstation thread:

...Little update from my end: after selling both optiplexes I had, and both LCDs, I just made a little less than 3 grand. Plus, after selling my scrapped MBP, two old printers, and an old eMachines, that added another 2 grand.

I can say that without all the bulky crap my workstation is a lot cleaner, and believe it or not much better than with all the other stuff. Now, I I'm left with my PowerBook G4, and my Inspiron. Works a lot better for me.

Oh, and I got just under 5 grand. Hmm, what to do, what to do xD. .......

PS, thanks for the recommendation....but why do you like the M6300? What people think about the computers is what's gonna be my final decision :)

#490456

Well the hard drive's free fall sensor seems like an excellent touch, especially for a laptop. the 1680 x 1050 display is...what...the highest resolution a laptop can go? i only speak out of n00bness on that point. the fingerprint reader sounds pretty cool too, good security feature.

so yea, if i had the option, i'd probably go for the m6300 (not really, i'd go for the mac, but that's just for the brand :P)

#490463

Haha, yeah, thats a major factor too...the brand...

"Apple; demons and angels. "

#490467

I am thinking between the XPS and the iMac...

oh, and Happy birthday Timan

#490495

if you're gonna spend all 5 grand, you're gonna hafta get an alienware laptop. or, get the dell and a $1000 paint job.

#490497

Look at what I have. What do you think I'm going to recommend? You've got $5K, so...

MacBook Pro 17-inch High-Resolution Glossy Widescreen Display

2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

4GB 667 DDR2 - 2x2GB SO-DIMMs

200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm

SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

iWork '08 preinstalled

AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro

This'll make Apple really happy... $4,477.

If you want a Windows one...

Well, it really depends on what you plan to do with it. If you're a gamer, get an Alienware laptop. If you're the photo/video editing type (and you insist on Windows), get the XPS. If you're the type to post on Aqua Soft, IM, browse the 'net and that sort of thing, get this one, because otherwise, you're wasting over $4000.

#490522

I'd recommend the last laptop you mentioned, the HP Compaq 8710w. That graphics card is a beast, and the rest of the specs are pretty much top-of-the line, and you said it yourself that you like the docking station and such. 1920x1200 also is the biggest resolution a monitor can go, so you're set there too. I'd get it, and spend the rest either going for a 30 inch monitor (if you REALLY want it and can afford it :P ) or pimp that shit out :P

Either that, or get the HP Blackbird 002 (its not a laptop, but the sexiest PC I've ever seen..)

#490530

I'd suggest an HP dv9000 series compared to that ugly Dell m6300 thing, at least the HP 17" actually has a full size keyboard. They're really nice machines, I have a 15.4 (decided the 17" was just too big for me).

#490532

I suggest the Compaq 8710w

lol, believe me, I know what your saying :D. I'm just worried that Apple is going to update the MBP line after I get it xD. There is also the fact that I own a shiny PowerBook already, as well.

I am seriously leaning toward the Compaq. It really is a beast, and sexy too (in my eyes...:P). The docking station is really a great factor as well.

Blackbird... yeah, I'll look and add use it as a choice :). So.... now to pluck out desktop choices.

and...yeah....the m6300 really is sorta being hard on my eyes.

#490613

So I've decided that I do not want a desktop :). I mean, I got rid of my optiplexes and such because I Found absolutely no use for them. So the laptops are there, and thats what I'm gonna stick with. :)

EDIT: One more lappy added, and the m6300 taken out :).

EDIT 2:

So it's down to 2. the HP and the Compaq....oh wait, 2 1/2, because the MacBook Pro...

NOTE: with $2,173.98 for the HP, I could have enough $$$ to get a MacBook or something as well :)

#490616

Get the HP and then spend a couple hundred and get two 1TB external drives and live happily ever after XD.

#490621

haha, I already have one, along with a 320GB and a 500GB :). I'm already happy xD
