Removing FlyakiteOSX remnants

Hi, I've just installed your Flyakite osx, liked it, then uninstalled it after I got bored. Then, for some strange reason, I noticed that certain icons and elements stayed the same as flyakiteosx such as the my music folder, when you change the theme or something the flyakite box opens, my pictures, and in IE6 the top icons (such as go back, go forewardm fav's etc) are the same as flyakite osx, also, the recycle bin stays the same as flyakiteosx, please help me as I want the XP theme back completely. Thank you.

use the system restore point that flyakite installer created to go back to pure xp :P

#490010

That was the first thing I done, yet there's still some icons floating around as I described.

#490013

if the some folders are still flyakite based, make an alteration within that folder and the folder icon is restored.. its not the cure to your problem but an alternative cosmetic solution..

#490084

Also, try to rebuild icon cache, then clean registry, reboot...

#490087

To rebuild the icon cache, use TweakUI; that would set your problem right in a jiffy. The cleaning registry isn't necessary, but you can go ahead with that too (it's not related to this problem, though).

What does that even mean?

I've got TweakUI, but I've already tried "Reparing" the icons, if there is something different I should be doing please help me.

lol! and i thought ojalord's instruction was the ultimate solution! wrong on MY part to assume.

anyway, what davidsword meant (i'm assuming, again, and i could be wrong hehe) was that you can change the folder icons individually...and then you can see the results in a jiffy!

#490106

I can't change the icons individually, because FLYAKITE OVERWRITE THE FOLDER SKINS!!

#490107

Even I'd thought Kinsemon's and my suggestion would work...lol, indeed.

Well, it is a bit hard for us to troubleshoot your issue because I've never had problems in uninstalling fak ever, so at best I can only attempt guesswork. I guess you'll have to wait for more experienced members for a working solution, sorry. :(

Edit: try getting an unpatched shell32.dll (that's the one for folders, right?) from somewhere and try replacing the fak one with that...Make sure it's for the correct OS version, though.

Do this:

Go to C:WindowsSystem32

Find shell32.dll, right click on it, choose Properties, then select the Version tab, and tell the file version.

This way anyone with exactly the same version can provide you with it.

If you have your Windows XP install CD-ROM, try also searching for shell32.dll in the CD.

After having a clean copy of shell32.dll to use, if Windows doesn't allow you to replace shell32.dll, I guess you can use replacer (search the forum to find it).

BTW you have to replace it here:

C:WindowsSystem32

And here:

C:WindowsSystem32dllcache

The best you can do about it is to get the original shell32.dll from your Windows Installation CD.

#490112

I don't quite understand you, and I'm useless at finding things on forums, so could you please find the "replacer"?

#490124

This is the Replacer matonga was talking about.

It will allow you to replace the System32.dll while it is in use, assuming you managed to get your hands a copy of the dll, as described.

#490133

^not system32.dll, shell32.dll. At least, as far as I know it is shell32 that contains the icons.;)

Matonga's solution is the most definitive one, so go ahead with it.

Your right, that's the very dll<<>>

Well, it is a bit hard for us to troubleshoot your issue because I've never had problems in uninstalling fak ever, so at best I can only attempt GUESSWORK.

You indeed got that right, that's why being matter of fact about whether other people's suggestions will not work does not help solve the poster's problems, and just shows the critic's character, which is pure &h1t!. Flyakite installation writes something in the registry. it is always a good practice to clean registry and reboot after ANY un-installation. Whether it works or not, or might not be related to the poster's problem is irrelevant. Criticizing people trying to help by showing off how brilliant a person is or how smart that person perceives himself to be is not only annoying, but also laughable. what a pity...

hey, i'm just a stupid farmer, digging yams or rootcrops and swinging with monkeys in-between trees, i don't know much of anything about anything, but i've started using computers since mid-80s, both apple II and PC, but i don't write code. i also finished university. for me, a computer is just a tool to get something done. at least i know (and people can give me credit for this) that a computer is not a tool for digging rootcrops hehe...

On top of matonga and mps69's suggestions, check your context menus by right-clicking any folder in explorer window. if you see something like 'Color Label >' you probably still have iColorFolder installed. check in x:Program Files. you might have missed ticking it off during FAK unnstallation. it is a 3rd party app bundled with FAK setup. it has its own 'uninstall' sub-folder... you might have the correct shell32.dll file, but if you still have that app installed, well...

#490237

Oh... I just got my eye on this:

C:WindowsFlyakiteOSXBackup

It has all Windows original files, if the uninstaller didn't remove it then there is the unmodified shell32.dll file (unless you managed to install Flyakite OSX twice without uninstalling, which I doubt).

I checked the shell32.dll I've in that folder, and it has all the original icons. Check if you have that folder too (and then use replacer and follow the instructions I left above).

#490257

i've had this same problem even to the point where desktop icons do not work. i can only run programs by going to program files and accessing the program from there.

6.0.2900.3241 is my shell32 version....i currently am not able to find my xp disc...

could someone send a copy of it to eb45978@hotmail.com? much appreciated.

#490629

#490631
