can i convert from mac format to windows format (in windows)?

or do i need a mac to do that?

I've been looking for a program like that for a while, but it doesn't exist, unless you're talking about Mac OS Classic.

You can convert .icns files to .png with XnView, which is free.

Then you can convert .png files to .ico with IcoFX, which is also free.

So to go on the free path, you can do this:

.icns ---> XnView ---> .png ---> IcoFX ---> .ico

This is not precisely straight forward but is good enough considering it is free.

NO, you won't loose alpha/transparency data, XnView produces a .png with transparency/translucency (technically speaking, 32 bit ARGB pixels).

It doesn't support extracting windows 256x256 icons yet, but does 128x128 and just about everything else.

i guess the easiest way to convert PNG to .ico is to use the "aveiconifier"... its a nice program...
