Is a Mac Mini Any Good?

Hey,

Im checking out the Mac Mini to use purely as a workhorse for designing on and its probably the best way to get a Mac for me at this moment in time, its nice and small and i could hook it up next to my PC.

My question is, is it powerful enough to do most tasks, and is there any product revisions in the pipeline for the mac mini?

Has it got wireless built in?

Is it even any good it seems a bit restricted in terms of specs?

Anyone here got one, please give me some feedback on what you think of it.

Mac Mini have wireless built in... I don't recommend it because by the time you get a monitor and keyboards and what not it is better to get the iMac and that's what I did...

like someone on this board or another once said, we've hit a point in computers were a basic computer (browsing, email, chat, word) can last efficiently for over ten years. Although thats easily debatable, the idea still remains that as long as your just doing basic normal tasks, a mac mini will be sufficient.

So true. My grandmother uses an old gateway, (64MB RAM, Windows 98SE, 9GB HD, 300MHz PII...) for email and web. Works great for her.

design? workhorse? mac mini?

No.

i mean, I wouldnt call it a limited machine for day to day use- music, photos and documents... but design, as in graphics etc... wouldnt be my first choice.

its cheap. its small. its portable. its a mac mini.

good if you have the peripherals already (keyboard, monitor and mouse) and a great way to start out with a mac if ur strapped for cash, but otherwise go for an iMac... its the better machine. but if its purely for design and you have the cash, go for the Mac Pro.

Well.. since ditching my win box the mini has been super... I'm able to run my graphic apps fine (photoshop, Illustrator, bryce) although the stuff I do is fairly low end... hehe.

Get the best spec you can... I got the top end model... been upgraded since methinks,

It's been a real blessing and is a fine intro into the world of mac... mac pro next... one day... tails off dreamily here...
