Device appearing in my computer (when it does not exist)

the device (A: ) appears and i don't even have a diskette device!

it's annoying because when i click on it (accidentaly) the computer slows down

You can use TweakUI to hide unwanted drive. I've removed it in the past.

Hiding it will work but, they may have other problems in the future.

Did the computer ever have a floppy drive? If not then I would run a full Anti-Virus and spyware check.

Then if your computer is clean and you have admin permissions do the following:

- create a system restore point

- right click on my computer and select properties or choose system in the control panel

- select hardware tab

- select device manager

- in device manager select drives or Floppy Disk Drives

- select the floppy drive

- right click, choose uninstall

- follow directions then reboot your computer

I had the same problem when I upgraded my hardware and got rid of the floppy (without formatting Windows). Following SirSmiley's advice will work.

Try looking in Device manager, see if there is 'something' in there....Don't ask why, just have a hunch....
