what are you running vista or xp?? and are all your icons gone??
For Xp do this:
first go in your computer then "drive"windowssystem32, scroll down and look for shell32.dll.
If you cant find it then, download the copy from either

If you have Xp use replacer to replace the files if you already have them but are using Xp icons, first thing you should do is backup the Shell32.dll by copying it, dont cut it you need the original in the system32 folder. Run replacer drag the original into the window, press enter and then drag the one you want to replace it press enter again, its gonna ask you if your sure put in (Y=yes)(N=no) after that its gonna exit out. restart your computer and they should be there.

If you want the original windows Xp shell32.dll either search your computer with search or manually, boot up your computer with the windows Xp cd and click on repair(look for it)
