I'd vote for the Classic (since touch isn't an option ^^) since I regretted not buying an larger iPod when I first bought my nano.

I got an 80gb classic recently and love it, except for the rubbish max volume!

and by the way I would get the nano... just because I already have a 5G iPod so I am good with lots of stuff... plus if you get the 8GB... isn't that enough to fill it with songs you will actually listen to?

Also, I agree with you, unless you've got 20,000 songs in your library, 8GB should be plenty

just buy an old or used ipod, it really all depends on what you need(want). If you really want to watch movies, you need a video, no question, because a nano can only hold up to 20 videos, and no music, depending on the video quality, i used to have 50 videos, i used 128 kb for the video(plus 2000 songs, if you did that you might be able to get 50, but no music. For me anymore i just use a shuffle, i just load it in the morning, is very reliable, and cheap.
Classic best way to go
80 or 160 Classic. Always can use it as as portable hard drive.
For a ~ 128 kbps mp3 we are talking about 1 mbyte per minute.
So with 4 Gb you get space for 4,000 minutes of music, this is about 2 days and 18 hours without interruptions.
Now let's suppose you sleep 8 hours a day, so there are 16 hours left to listen to music, so with 4 Gb you have a little more than 4 days of music.
With the 8 Gb model you can have music for the whole week.
With 80/160 Gb you get to put enough music for two/four months (indeed you get enough space to put all your CDs into the iPod in .mp3 format and never ever have to put/delete music on it, with the exception of new CDs).
When ever someone asks, which thing i should get, and i always seam to say gear this decision in the direction of, your needs and price range. I will make this post a short one because i seam to be ranting on.

movies on the nanos and that should be seen as a large disadvantage On the music thing, And the
music thing all has to do on how you listen to music, i personally will buy albums and sublimity
listen to music all night and day. So ya 80 gigs for music would be nice, but i do have to say that
160 gigs is just encouraging illegal music downloading, how many people use there ipods as an
external hard drive anyway.
If you're thinking of a Nano because you don't need a lot of storage space, you may as well consider an iPod Touch. Jailbreak it and it becomes a miniature computer.

Yeah, reencoding your videos on the touch itself using ffmpeg is amazing 
(even if it's quite slow), It looks even more like a computer than my psp (custom fw too)
Because I use mine for an external hard drive. I've got school newscast video on mine (We edit on Macs).

If you want the larger screen for video then go for the classic.
If you want the small form factor or funky colours go for the nano.
If you take it running then get the nano- no moving parts.

You can, but i wouldnt recommend it-
a- its bulkier.
b- its got a spinning hard drive inside, meaning that bumps will cause songs to skip and damage to the unit.

Of course,I will prefer Classic.coz of 80 Gb gives me the chance of downloading songs of mine and my brother's choice.Moreover screen size also matters for us.
I would reccomend a Cowon for touch screen and whatnot. In my oninion the newer Zune has a lot more going for it. I would actually reccomend neither of them, as I used both and disliked them. If you get an old iPod mini (love mines by the way) you could do a lot of stuff with it.
I installed rockbox on mines. It uses more battery but it has crossfading, advanced options, and a great GUI. It also autoscans your music, so no more itunes. Its also very easy to put in a compact flash card inside. They go all the way to 16GB now, although I wouldn't reccomend that, since you obviously don't have that much songs. I would vote for the nano.
Do you guys think the price of the classic will lower by May or anytime over the summer?
