Change shutdown screen

I need help , please..

Recently i Switched to Royale Remixed Theme on my XP Media center.

Everything is working fine , But I am not capable to change the colors on the background of the Shutdown screen.

I tried using ResHacker and Replacer editing the msgina and shell32 dlls to no avail .

They al go back to the the blueish color, even when i "see" the change executed under ResHacker.

These also created a couple of Msgina files named :

msgina_original.dll located on C:WINDOWSsystem32

msgina.dll ( I think this is the ORIGINAL) located on C:WINDOWSsystem32

msgina.backup located on C:WINDOWSsystem32 (This is the BACKUP File created by the Replacer.

Also I have the file named msgina on :

msgina.dll located on C:i386

msgina.backup also located on C:i386.

Will it be any problem deleting all of the and keep only the msgina.dll located on C:WINDOWSsystem32 and C:i386 ????

And how how i can finally hack and change the background of the shutdown screen???

Thanks in advance..

provided that you are talking about the shutdown screen not the welcome screen type. yea the background can be changed with tweakUI.

msgina.dll will give u the shutdown window, but the background is defined by urself, u just need to make sure the sfc_os.dll in system32 folder never been changed b4.

then u need a replacer to replace the two files, better put the backup file on somewhere else like disk D. then it works

Does anyone have the step by step on how to do the change?

Thanks

most windowblinds skins will change this. pick up a copy of it. MSGina.dll is in charge of certain dialogs like the "Please Wait" dialog when you change a theme, the shutdown dialog, etc. etc....

just find a windowblinds skin with a dialog you'd like and voila - it's different. no file replacing, no reshacking....

You could also try this...

Very interesting alternatives ,but both involved running constantly an application on the background..

I would like to edit msgina and shell32 dlls ,and get done with it..

any other solutions...???

I think there's a fault in the instructions. Where it says "Save the file and exit Reshacker", it should say "Save the file with a new name and exit Reshacker".

When you try to save msgina.dll as msgina.dll, Reshacker will first create a backup, msgina_original.dll, and then try to save the changes to msgina.dll. Only it can't, because it is a system file. So what you wind up with is two identical files, msgina.dll and msgina_original.dll.

If you open and edit msgina_orginal.dll with Reshacker, and then use msgina.dll as the original in Replacer and msgina_original.dll as the new, I think you'll find you can sucessfully change your menus.
