Outlook to Apple Mail.app

I don't want to dish out 10$ for software I'll use once for Outlook2Mail..

Can anyone verify that this tutorial works, or if theres a better way? (Only mail no contacts, calender etc.)

Nooooo.... don't spend any money, there's no need.

On the Windows machine, download Thunderbird, from Mozilla.

In Thunderbird, import from Outlook (it's v easy, just follow the instructions).

Then... find your Thunderbird files (the site has a great FAQ, I am at work so can't walk you through this, but it's the usual documents and settings, yourname, local settings, application data etc... and you're looking for two files, which will be called Mail and Sent (I think). Just rename them to Mail.mbx and Sent.mbx, copy them over to your Mac and, woohoo, you can import them to virtually any Mail App.

That's how I did it anyway... into Entourage and Mail.

No one replyed after that post from a year ago.. so I'm iffy.

Thank you,

To be honest is sounds about right. TB will import all your contacts and mail from Outlook. I'm also sure mail.app will import all your details from TB.

You've not got much to lose if you just remember to back up all your stuff, which I'm pretty sure you will have done already. ;)

If you only want to keep your mail, and contacts doesn't matter, and you are using IMAP or IMAP4, then you should only have to set up your account on Mail.app, and all your email's and folders should be exactly the way they were, unless you had Outlook set to "Download all messages from IMAP server".

I, personally, always kept my email on my IMAP server. So that no matter where / how I check my email everything is always the way it was/is on everything else I checked it on...If that makes sense :slant:

If not, and all of this doesn't apply to you, then I'm pretty sure that mps69 is also correct on the importing from Outlook to Thunderbird and then Thunderbird to Mail.

I've imported mail successfully from Thunderbird to Mail.app, so if you import from Outlook to Thunderbird, you should have no problem getting your emails from Thunderbird to Mail.

I can't speak as to contacts, but there you go.
