Can you draw?

Maybe you can post a sketch/mockup of what you want.

i whipped this up in photoshop so that it looks as nice as possible

the big white bar is where you type what your searching for, obviously

the drop down menu would have two options, song or band to make the search a little more specific

and then search is self explainitory

it would basically be a shortcut to search the ultimate-guitar website for tabs, however i think that if it could open the tabs directly in a flyout window, that would be amazing

Great idea, I never thought to ask for such a shortcut. Us bassists don't go in for innovation, apparently XP

Not that this helps - more of a moral support post than anything - but I'd really like to see this developed too.

I've just googled a bit for your question and here is what I've got:

1) Guitar Application for iPhone iPod touch http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1063010/awes...n_for_the_ipod/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IfXaz4MWAU

2) GuitarChords - Widget for Mac

http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/m...itarchords.html

3) Guitar Tab Finder - Yahoo Widget

http://widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/guitar-tab-finder

4) Guitar Jam Machine - online app

http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/guitar_chords_jam.php

As far as side bar app is concerned - I suggest you that kind of a look from Garageband (Mac) or MixCraft (GarageBand alternative for PC ) which will slide from the bottom

InsomniacN14, I am a bassist as well, i love playing, what kind do you play?

and alabanco, thanks for the help but i need something that displays tablature, and none of those things have that, those are more for making music, no learning how to play songs, i do appreciate the help though

There are some Widgets which support custom search engines like the Pinpoint Widget. I tried it with a custom search for songs in the ultimate-guitar website and it worked. Here's what I did:

1. Open the Pinpoint Widget.

2. Right click it and select "Add a New Search".

3. In the "URL of search results page" field enter:

for songs:

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/search.php?w=songs&s=[?]

for bands:

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/search.php?w=bands&s=[?]

4. Fill in the other preferences and click the "Add Search Engine!" button.
