Yes it would be good.

If you've got taskkill.exe on your system, you can write a batch file that closes those programs.

taskkill.exe /IM YzDock.exe

taskkill.exe /IM Client.exe

etc.

If you don't have that, there may be a similar exe out there for your system.

there's a program called closetorunxp (works on xp, not tested on older)

that i've been using... it'll shut down up to 5 apps, start up one(ie.dvd) and then automatically start up those 5 apps again when the one being used is ended.

I was using it as a switch between toolbar states, and it was easy to set up, so you could easily setup dock shortcuts to do what you mention. It seemed fairly stable to me, but i only used it as a dock switch and in running a game so maybe try it and see what you think... I've had two instances of it running at the same time and never had any problems. On the other hand... it stalled a couple of times with y'z dock, but that seemed to be a problem specific to y'z(which seems to occasionally freeze in magnified, or mouseover, position)

I think you could probably even have a switched dock so that you could have one version of your dock that doesn't use ctrxp and one that does so that you can have the option of using the programs with or without switching off other sets of apps. (all it would take is one click on your dock and you would have your same shortcuts with closetorun enabled).

oh yeah, it needs visual basic runtime 5 and 6

so, if you have xp starcatcher this'll be exactly what your looking for, and the site doesn't explicitly say not compatible with pre-xp os, so you could try it out if you are pre xp.

its freeware too

...i'll shut up, here's the link...closetorunxp

Wow, great find realitybath. (Y)

thanks simon, i think that i actually found it on these forums somewhere though...

can't really remember though it might have been aquaxp?

starcatcher i just reread your post and realiized you might have wanted something off your dock - like locked to your desktop maybe... if your running rainmeter or rainlender(i think it would work with lender too) you might want to combine mimeryme's idea with a button on rm or rl that you can lock to you desktop. You can position the button fairly far from whatever meters your running so that it would blend with whatever theme\desktop your running. You could link it to ctrxp as an alternate. (icon on the desktop would work too i guess... i just hate the way they always shift around when you accidentally hold click them).

just another idea, hope it helps

edit.. actually i just realized that if ctrxp just toggled the programs on and off and wasn't tied to the one app that your closing everything else for in order to run, it would do exactly what your talking about. Plus I'm guessing it wouldn't have to be running in the background once activated(since it wouldn't have to monitor the state of that one app). I'll try and give the developer this suggestion for their app and maybe something will come of it or maybe not.

I was looking for this same tool which is why i'm blathering... (+ i like doing everything through a gui.. yeah call me lazy or dumb... i don't care :naughty: )

hey mimeryme... what is taskkill.exe, do you know where i can get it cause i wouldnt mind trying that method out in the meantime.
