Trying to create this effect

Hey everyone. I was trying to get this effect done with AveDesk (shown below), but so far I'm pretty lost as to how to actually do it.

Link to the picture showing the effect:

I didn't create the picture, but that's basically the effect I'm trying to achieve.

The question is basically - how to get a square to appear underneath an Avedesk icon (PidlShortcut) when you hover the mouse over the icon and if possible, how to make that square stay there (over the icon) when you click on the icon once. If someone knows how to do that (or whether it's possible to do via Avedesk) I'd really appreciate the info.

Thanks.

In desklet properties, under "effect" select "selection box". And ensure that under advanced the clicking mode is set to double-clicking (not default or single). :)

OK, I tried that, but it doesn't do anything when I hover the mouse over the PidlShortcut. It only works when I click once on the icon. I was actually referring more to the hover effect, like when you don't click on the icon, but just move your mouse over it - that's when I would have liked for the box to appear. Could I do that? thanks

Like Ojalord said it does that. I'm using it now.

The problem is when you loose focus from AveDesk then it doesn't persist. Eg. When you click on the screen after clicking on a PidlShortcut. None of the effects (if I remember correctly) persist.

atm I have three shortcuts; so, when I click on the first one then AveDesk get's focus and hovering over each item switches the selection box.

One of the first things you should do when you begin to use a new progam is to explore it's preferences/settings/options available. You learn about a lot of extra stuff you never knew the program could do as well as be able to put it to better use. :)

The option you want is here: go to the Avedesk control panel, in the Settings menu select Settings (meh!) and then navigate to the Selection tab. Once there, tick "Hover selection" and set the time delay in the field below. And it won't do any harm at all to carefully click on each of the other tabs and look over the settings availabe. ;)

sorry, you were right, it does do it... I tried the hover select option from the settings... but I get this weird problem... I hover the mouse over one shortcut and it gets selected... then I hover the mouse over another and that one gets selected too (with the first one still being selected)... So now I have a number of selected icons. Anyway, I'll experiment more on whether I can fix the issue, but I'm guessing this is the problem SirSmiley was talking about with losing focus from Avedesk.

Also, one last question, would it somehow be possible for the hover square to be enlarged (say if I were to use another png) so that it would not only cover the icon, but also the text underneath it?

Thanks loads for your help.

Don't know anything about the first problem (I don't even use the hovering or the selection box thing, :P)...The second though: if you click configure next to where you select the effect, you get a dialog that has a "set image" option. I haven't tried this myself, but *maybe* if you set a larger image there, it will do what you want. I really don't know more than that, ;)

Also, try adjusting the label positioning.

I don't think what you want will be possible but, am frequently wrong.
