Alright, this is a problem I've had ever since I bought my Mac last year. I have Mail.app as a login item, so it'll launch when I log in. I have the check box under hide checked next to it, but for some odd reason it never hides on start-up. Instead, it'll open an unactive window.
After I upgraded to Leopard I would expect that this would change, but it didn't. Does anyone know the problem?
P.S. Mail.app CAN hide, it just doesn't hide on startup the way I want it to.
In user preferences, under the startup tab, I think you have an "Hidden" checkbox (or whatever, there is only one checkbox in the list ...), maybe it is what you need

Nope, it's already checked off. I did a little more research on it, and apparently it's a known issue that still hasn't been resolved. I can fix it by making a replacement AppleScript go on startup. That will then make Mail launch, and THEN hide it, which is really messy and not what I want. I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed after all these years.
Also, ironically enough when I was searching for help, this topic was the first result on Google. Weird, eh?
