I Got My New Dsl Line...

Sorry to disturb, especially our American friends in the middle of their blackout, but I just connected my new DSL line... and I got 2 Mb/s....

Believe me... it's absolutely incredible.

To have this at home is PURE pleasure !!!

For my French fellows here, let me explain :

C'est le truc de Free, en dégroupé sur Paris... et donc...

contractuellement c'est 1 Mb, mais on a tous 2 Mb en ce momemt, parce que

la Freebox est prévue pour transporter plus de signaux (video + téléphone x 2)

ANYWAY, 2 MB !!! AAAAAAAAAAH !

I didn't sleep last night... too happy to surf so fast ! :-)

Love all,

Denis.

Nice :D

I got 1 Mbit, and it feels good :) I remember back in the days when i had ISDN, that was crappy :P

Everybody should have the posibilityto have a Dsl line :)

Is a 2 MB connection worth a topic? No. There's nothing special with connections under 10MB. Sorry to say this, but it's my opinion since so many people have fast connections here.

Excuse the French:

And LoofyGun, please get off your high horse. Over here in Western Europe, speeds of 2 (or even 1) megabit per second are very rare indeed. The vast majority here still use dial-up, indeed where I am at the moment in the UK, only 1.5 million households have broadband. Given that the population of the UK is 60 million, and around ten million households use the internet at home, you'll see how 'big a deal' these broadband connections are to us.

2 MEGABYTES a second?! Or 2 megaBITs a second. Theres a big difference.

#47573

damn... I just have 256 kbps..

@Contra, what would that be, bits or bytes?

#47575

Aw, hush Loofy. Elitist. :rolleyes:

Mandrake, I'd like to be the first to welcome you to the "We can download teh :boob shake::boob shake: fasterz" club. We'll be sending along your membership card within the week. :lol::lol::lol:

That would be 256kiloBITs per second. Usually:

KB/s = kilobytes per second

kbps = kilobits per second

8 bits to the byte, thats why its a big difference.

Wow. I thought I was going good with my 768k verizon service. It's the cheapest high-speed we can get here. Cable's expensive and comcast has restrictions on # of computers. Verizon doesn't like people running servers, but they don't try to stop anybody who does, so I run 2. We're supposed to be getting a wireless service here too, 3 megs symmetrical!

What's strange is that my sister living eight miles from Pittsburgh can't get any broadband other than wireless.

#47609

And I have a badnwidth cap of 5GB.. Does that suck or what? -_-

#47610

It must be 2 mbps, i.e. 200kb per second,...

The fastest adsl is 8192 mbps, so 800kb per second.

#47613

Actually, 2MBts is 250KB a second

and

8192 mbps is 1MB a second.

8 bits to the byte.

#47614

ya

#47628

hey contra i been getting roughly 2000 Kbps, whats that? help me out buddy my geekness elite friend. :)

#47631

2000 kbps = 2000/8 KB/s = 250 KB/s

this is a cool toy!

@French:

Putain je voulais m'abonner, pke ca vient d'arriver dans les yvelines (la ou j'habite)

Mais les 2mb/s, ca va durer lgt ? Et ya l'ip fixe ? Pke pour moi c imperatif ;)

@Loofygun:

You know, in france we get a 512/128 connection for about 30$ a month.

And thoses are megaBITS not megaBYTES (8 bit = 1 byte)

Anyway, I'll think I'm gonna get it :))))

#47704

Ok, sorry to all if i got you angry :). Maybe i'm so used to fast connections since in Finland we have only 5 million people and majority have internet :). It's true that many people still use dialup, but fast connections are getting cheaper and cheaper. I know that 50e for a 2 Mb (mpbs,MB, whatever shut up contra :D) isn't that cheap, but the standard of living is so high that many people can afford it.

@Siwu, 512/512 costs 35e here :).

#47713

well i got 100 mbps at work and 10 mbps at home, there is a big difference...
