iTunes not burning a CD

Ok My Itunes will no longer burn a CD. I put a blank CD in...it checks the playlist, starts to intialize...says the title of the first song, like its getting ready to start burning. Then it says "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred(4280).

I have searched the web and this site looking for the answers. But none of them seem to be working. I have an HP pavillon laptop with vista. Recently I upgraded my Itunes to 7.5.0.20....i think thats the version at least. All the drive problems I see are about a sony drive...but I did that diagnostics testing and this is what came up...

Optical Drive Detected

H:Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH ATA Device

Optical Drive:

Yellow Dot-Date or MP3 CD Found.

Green Dot- Driver correctly Installed

Yellow Dot-Unable to access audio CD.

Yellow Dot-Unable to read audio CD.

If anyone knows how to fix this it'd be great.

Is iTunes the only CD-burning program experiencing troubles? Try something like DeepBurner, see if you have similar problems.

I tried Windows Media player too. It wouldn't work either. I had no problems until I had to reinstall iTunes. iTunes wouldn't work so when I reinstalled, it reinstalled to a newer version...So I think the new version is what is causing the mess up. But I'm assuming there is a way to fix it, because I am not the only one experiencing this problem. The solution on all the main sites like HP and Apple, don't work for me.

Try Nero

i had this problem on my windows machine ...never fixed it >_>

Whats nero? I don't want to try another program. All my music and playlists are on iTunes...I want to use iTunes. This problem didn't occur until I got the updated version of iTunes, so there has to be a way to fix it. And I'm hoping someone who reads this forum knows how :(

Yes, but can you burn CDs with Nero? DeepBurner? We're trying to see if it's program-specific...

I don't have nero or deepburner. I have iTunes and windows media player. And I tried both of those.

try cdburnerxp. it's excellent and free. get it at http://cdburnerxp.se/download

it would be worth it to try one more program because the problem may be with the optical drive itself, not with the software

Well what I don't understand is why it was working before I reinstalled iTunes and stopped working afterwards. My drive is working fine. It reads discs, the computer and programs recognizes the drive is there. Blah :/

I don't want to download any new programs. Lately it seems everytime I download a program, something goes wrong on my computer. I downloaded AIM...and my Network Connection for my laptop wouldn't work right. I download iTunes again, and my disc burner is going nuts.

did you try lowering the burn speed in itunes?

#483108

Yes I tried lowering the burn speeds. But I finally was able to fix it. If anyone else is experiancing this issue....try this. (I'm on a laptop...so if you have a desktop, I don't know how to do this)

What fixed it was a hard restart. Apparently when I downloaded the new iTunes some settings got changed...duno how but they did. So I shut down my laptop....removed the power cord and the battery. Hold down the power button for 40 seconds. Then plug back in the ac cord and put the battery back in. Turn on your computer....hit f10 immediately several times. When the system config thingy pops up, hit f9 and hit enter, then save and exit. Your computer will restart again. This fixed my problem. :)
