iPod Touch Jailbreaking Questions

Hi. I have a few questions before I jailbreak my iPod.

1) Can this brick my iPod?

2) If an update comes out, then can it brick?

3) After an update, will I have to redo the jailbreak for the new version?

4) Does Installer.app show apps from online, or on the iPod itself?

1/ Yes, I did the procedure wrong one time but i could get it back using "Restore"

Just don't delete crucial files.

But with the methods that are out now (like jailbreakme etc ...) you don't have a big risk

2 ) Yes, but don't update and watch iPhone/iPod Touch hack sites

3 ) Yes, but sometimes there will be an preupgrade program that can put an hole that you can exploit once updated.

4 ) It shows a list of apps online, and the apps on your iPod. It only detects the packages that Installer.app installed itself, not the one you uploaded by sftp.

I recomment you to downgrade to 1.1.1 before jailbreaking (anyway, I think that direct 1.1.2 jailbreak is impossible) but not to upgrade to 1.1.2 (if you need the Calendar patch, there is one out on installer for 1.1.1 and it's stable)

On 1.1.1 you have springboard (icons menu) scrolling and all. Thus, on 1.1.2, some apps will just not install.

Good luck !

Just go onto Jailbreakme.com and click install. Safari will hang for a few seconds, a dialog box will show up showing your percent. You can't possibly brick, all you have to do at most if it fails is Restore in iTunes.

OK, so I did it. I have another question

4) So if a new update comes out, ill I have to reinstall all my apps?

#480991

Depends if apple decides to wipe the whole /Applications folder while updating.

#480995

Which they shouldn't. They've already claimed if you own a hacked product, they won't release an update that works directly against it.

OK sweet. Thanks. No, I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being annoying, but....

5) Do you guys know of an application for iPod that can allow me to change the background of the home menu itself. I know that SummerBoard (Or whatever it is) can use themes, but I want something I can choose a picture myself, etc.

Customize wont work on my iPod for some reason...
