[bug Reports] Namp Player V0.3.12

Since nAMP v0.3.12 has undergone lots of changes & improvements based on the previous bug reports, I believe it would be better to have a fresh thread for this. Before anything else, make sure you really READ all the details and known bugs that Mithrandel wrote in his "Release" topic here before posting your bug reports. It may already be a known issue or is still non-functional.

So happy bug-testing and thank you everyone...(Special thanks to Mithrandel for this huge update).

Edit: Corrected Mithrandel's name

getspectrum engine

The fall-off when you pause is pretty accurate now but the overall intensity seems lower than it should be.

The volume control is not supposed to have any effect on the spectrum. When you put the "other" player to 0 or full, the spectrum still has the same display level (Based on the level of the material and not the sound output).

Play/Pause/Next/Previous buttons

The buttons sometimes do not respond. I may have to click twice or more but it is not consistent.

Clicking on next and then clicking pause will play the song highlighted in blue.

Clicking on previous doesn't go to the previous song.

In the "other" player, the Play button changes to Pause when a song is playing, no matter where the song is located in the list and NOT where the blue highlight is. The blue highlight is mainly for selection purposes and has nothing to do with the play/pause button and doesn't have anything to do with the song you want to play. The tiny speaker icon shows the speaker with the output )) symbol when it is playing and just shows the speaker when in pause mode.

Search:

Typing a search word for the first time works fine but after you backspace on the word, the complete songlist doesn't come back. If I type something that isn't in any of the songs and it comes out empty, pressing the backspace keeps the list empty and the word "searching..." stays.

The biggest bug i've noticed is the cpu usage, when the window is active and/or in the background and visable its using 60 - 80% even when not playing. But When minimized its usually only using 2%. I dont have much knowledge of programming, but this was usually the case on some of our aqua apps. Does anyone else notice the cpu usage being that high?

#47323

bsiple - when you're moving your mouse over nAMP, it refreshes itself constantly. If you don't touch it, even if its the foreground window, it will only take ~3% cpu time while playing.

GameBoys, thanks for the praise. I'll see what I can do about the errors you submitted. The mouse detection is still a little sketchy, in that it has difficulties detecting two clicks one after the other in the exact same position. If you move your mouse even one pixel after every click, every mouse click will go through.

I have a problem that existed in the previous version. The problem is that the program hangs when it gets to 1894 of 8564 tracks during it's media scan. I can never get past this point.

#47339

Importing from CD works great but the progress display only works if I drag my mouse over it.

#47400

erm, well, not sure if this is a bug or not, but i can't minimize it by clicking the taskbar, i have to click the button on the player...

i just downloaded the newest version today, the cd functionality is not working for me... tried it different ways, no cd in the drive then starting the program ... cd already in the drive then starting namp... i go into the preferences and turn on the support for it, hit ok and the program just crashes everytime.

also, this is more of a display problem... look at the right side of the screenshot, the lettering is overtaking eachother. (e.g. 44.1 is over lapping Rate)

#47413

I'm not sure if this is a feature in the other players of this sort, but when I input text in the search box, and then click anywhere in the "source" pane, it clears the search box. I'm pretty sure other players don't do that.

My error with shift+click crashing the program has been fixed - great work, Mithrandel!

This is a pretty amazing little program. Now I just can't wait for the icon/splash contest to end, so it can be a pretty one, too!!

ignore this thread... didnt see a similar one... sorry...

this bug doesnt only apply to Namp 0.3.12 but all builds that support cd drives... whenever i insert a cd, nothing happens, i enable everything pertaining to cds, i selected show when a cd is inserted, and nothing happens, nAMP doesnt even recognize anything happened... i tried to insert a cd after loading nAMP, and i insert a cd then load nAMP, neither make any difference.

just thought id let you know that there may be other people out there with the same problem... i have a cdrw and a dvdrw for my 2 drives. tried them both, same result.

Possible fix for CD problems.

Download this driver and install it. This is the latest ASPI driver (v4.72) straight from Adaptec's website. It is supposed to work under 98/ME/NT/2K/XP and doesn't care if you don't have an Adaptec SCSI card installed.

ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_v470.exe.

So... did this help anyone?

Not work for me. :(

The Option tab in "Preferences" > "On CD Insert", not saved the change for other options for me. >.<

Only show: "Do Nothing" <_<

It's probably been mentioned already, but the player's pause button automatically changes back to the play button while the songs are playing. When I press the play/pause button again, it stops the song playing and plays from whichever song is selected in my playlist. Kind of annoying not being able to pause a song when that happens. ^^;

Other than that, things are looking great. Keep up the good work.

I think that may be intentional, but yeah, I agree.

after getting adatecs aspi layer mith the cd is no longer regonized by namp at all :( before it would just crash.

Sadly, I think CD issues are going to be one of the only things I'm not going to be able to fix - I have no idea where to even begin with these problems. For now, I advise everyone who is experiencing these issues to simply turn off the CD compatability, and import music using a different program. I'll try to fix it in the future, but for the present, all I can say is 'Sorry'. :(

Let's see now... here's an in-progress screenshot of the current release. I'm sure you'll all get a kick out of it.:lol:
