Was I wrong in thinking that Windows Vista Home Premium came with 3 licenses? I installed it on my laptop, and activated it. Then I installed on my desktop, upgrading from XP SP2, and when I try to activate it, it tells me that the key is already in use..
What the heck can I do about this? I am really annoyed quite frankly..
Any chance if I changed the product key on my laptop, would that free it up for my desktop?
You can some how pull this off, but i highly do not reccomend this. To be honest, the best way is if you were to buy an extra "upgrade" copy or purchase a license through microsoft.com. Otherwise, you just pirated your own copy of vista and could risk making the legit copy useless as well.

No. One Microsoft disk only comes with one license. Maybe you're getting confused with Apple's Family Packs which have 5 licenses?
Windows Server allows for multiple licenses, but not since recently.

The way my mate done this was by actually phoning up MS and saying that your computer crashed and you had to wipe the hd and that now it says your key is invalid. They should give you a new one!
