Dock will not display, but it's there

When I run RK Launcher, it starts, but the dock will not display. The dock items are active - I can click on them to open apps, but just can't see them. I can access the dock settings.

I have a custom visual style set -- could this be interfering? WinXP SP2

Fixed -- OK, it's a simple issue. When connected to a machine through a VNC client, the desktop will often be hidden depending on settings, and RK Launcher will not display.
