How to install new desklets?

After downloading 4 desklets from the main site I can't get any of them to install, they don't appear in the 'add' list or any other options.

I've followed the tutorial, which doesn't work for me, I've downloaded AverScripter and AveSDK, neither seem to be able to do anything with the files after I've extracted them.

I extract them into the desklet folder, the appear in as folders like the other desklets, but then AveDesk can't see/use them.

I'm using 'Search Desktop', could that have anything to do with it?

I have the AveScript desklets working, but when I put the downloaded and extracted ones in that folder they can't be added in 'add desklet'.

Hi there -

have you tried running the "register.bat" in the AveDesk folder (for associating the "aveinst"-file type with AveDesk)?

The desklets you downloaded, are they *.zip or *. aveinst format?

If they're aveinst-files, just doubleclick them, while AveDesk is running...

please don't triple post....

1-if they are already in aveinst format you just need to make sure avedesk is running then double click the aveinst

2-if they're in zip format find out first if they are for avedesk or avescripter if they are for avedesk copy the contents to the desklet folder if they are avescripter extract them in the avescripter folder inside the desklets folder

3-if you don't get it give me the specific desklets(including download link) and i'll give you the ultra specific instructions

Thanks, the double-clicking thing worked. Apart from on D-weather, which doesn't do anything.

Also, the calendar disappears when I click 'Show Desktop'.

Apologies for the multiple post, just trying to give more information.

I think I'll re-install now that I've messed around with it and try again.

The files are from here http://www.avedesk.org/desklets/dateandtime/ -- D-weather from the information section.

I've put the files in the AveScripter folder which is inside the Desklet one.

Double clicking has various effects, the clock seems to work fine, ahscalendar is toggled by 'show desktop', and D-weather doesn't work at all.

How do I run 'register.bat'?

The other weather one is permanently stuck on Montreal, Canada. Thousands of miles west of where I am.

I have D-Weather working now, and that's permanently stuck on Montreal as well. With no obvious option to change it.

Figured out ohow to run register.bat, just click on it.

Still buggy as anything though.

what version of avedesk do you have? how bout avescripter what version? and wat OS?

Its called bad UI... To be able to change the location move it to the bottom right corner of the desklets. "Most desklets" have a hidden flippy.

IT was later added a feature to make the flippy toggle when you move the mouse over the desklet but older desklets didn't get updated. The default one should show the flipping icon when you move your mouse over the desklets.

Anyhow, safe bet, always move your mouse to the right corner of the desklet, you'll be able to flip it and then select location.
