Firefox not starting.

Not long ago firefox has just stopped starting.

It gives me the error message saying that firefox can't start because there is an other instance running that is not responding.

firefox.exe is not running and there are no handles to do with it in my task manager.

Firefox in safe mode gives the same message. I have tried re-installing with the latest version. Nothing. I have uninstalled, removed all registries to do with firefox and reinstalled.

Nothing.

Anybody have any ideas? Safari is painfully slow and crashes constantly, I'm kinda getting sick of it =P

Thanks in advance =)

I'm sure someone else had this same problem a few months back, but i can't find the solution.

Have you tried installing the portable version FireFox?

This runs the same way as the normal version however doesn't install anything.

If you try it on a separate drive or partition.

Thanks mps69. FF portable works fine. Do you know if there's any chance of getting my old FF back? I had loads of extentions, and I doubt I could remember all of them... Thankfully I used foxmarks so I still have my bookmarks. Thanks again =)

It could be one of the extensions that's gummed things up, that's not unheard of.

Did you back up the extensions folder, I'm guessing not. ;) I wouldn't have either, if that's the case I think they maybe lost, unless someone else can throw some light on this.

Don't worry. I'll hopefully be getting a new computer soon, and if I dont I'll probably trash this one and reinstall windows. I'll be fine with FF portable.

Thanks for the help =)

wuzzie, try google :P the 1st one and 2nd ones look good

its because your profile was locked by the last ff and the new one can't unlock it...

Wuzzie: go to connect.apple.com, and download the latest build of Safari (3.0.4) 523.7. Lightyears better than 3.0.3. Memory footprint is better, too.

Strangely my old FF installation works again. Yesterday it started fine and I had all my extentions going, but today it's loaded as if it's in safe mode... but it isn't. It's really starting to confuse me.

Hey, at least I have FF back though!

Thanks.

Glad to hear it. FF is weird on mine (really slow startup).

I also have a problem regarding Firefox but mine is a bit different.

Last month I just reinstalled WinXP, and Firefox (2.0.0.7) right after. At first the browser worked fine like it always did with my old Windows. But after I changed the code page for programs with non-unicode environment (to Thai), Firefox didn't start any longer. I tried resetting the non-unicode thingy back to Spanish, which is the default on my puter. Firefox came back to work again.

Alas, I had to stop using Firefox because I still have some work proggies which need to be run on Thai codepage, so I switched to SeaMonkey.

I also tried with my other computer and the results were the same.
