iPod (Click Wheel) [2004 model] dilemma

I have a problem with my 2004 'Click Wheel' iPod. First, the hard drive was corrupt, so I deleted the partition, and had iTunes restore it. It worked. But, that was with FireWire on my PC downstairs.. Of course, that computer. doesn't have any of my music. My upstairs PC does. And, it doesn't have firewire. So, using a USB cable that came with my second generation Nano, I connected it to my PC. All it did was freeze iTunes.

So basically, it worked with my FireWire but not on a USB...

Suggestions?

First if you what apple techs will make you do is make sure that you have the newest version of itunes. So do that first and see if it works. Then try plugging it in before you load itunes. If itunes still freezes and but your computer reconises it as a hard drive, than copy all your music on to it and copy it back to the computer that will reconises it. If You still have problems with itunes, there is always winamp and anapod explorer.

um, I don't think it's iTunes, It has to be my iPod. Or perhaps it could be the fact that I'm running Vista.

About half the time I plug it in, iTunes freezes and I get a stop error in windows, resulting in a BSOD.
