[newsimg]http://www.aqua-soft.org/media/news/2d25e73be6e4484aa38a4b266849f6af.jpg[/newsimg]Apple just posted Leopard guided tour on their website. A video in similar fashion like iPhone, iPod touch and iLife '08 guided tour videos, where a some apple dude narrates and demo'es the feature on monitor.

Mac OS X Leopard : Apple Guided Tour

Very interesting. Does Time Machine require an external drive?

#477065

Beta versions of leopard didn't. I was able to use a 2nd partition on my iMac. Not really smart tho if you want a "safe" backup since if the drive goes you lose both your backup and data. But useful if you just wanna restore those files every once and while you might delete/screw up.

#477077

yea that's what i meant. Also, can it be skinned?

#477082

What I read from AppleInsider's guide... External Drive is mandatory for Time Machine. Will still confirm. :)

#477083

I doubt using an external hard drive will be mandatory, none of the previous builds up to 9A559 have required it. You should be able to continue to backup to whatever medium you want, whether it's a separate partition, DVD, etc.

you need a second hard drive... im 80% sure.... so if u own a mac pro, then u can backup to a second internal drive.

I highly doubt you will be able to backup to small capacity flash drives and DVDs.

BTW... I suppose the guided tour confirms that the Aqua scrollbars shall live on in infamy.

till my new theme takes over...

Congratz!

@ Quillz: You know, I'm really confused with all the scrollbar-stuff:

On the one hand, we have iTunes with a completely different scrollbar and column-titles, but on the other hand, we got the latest Leopard pics and videos with the old Aqua-Scrollbars.

BUT: On the Guided tour, there's an iPhoto '08 window that have the new scrollbars, too.

BUT[2]: If Apple really keeps the latest changes to the UI secret and don't want to show stuff like the new scrollbars, why have they ever unveiled the look of them with iTunes 7?

One more thing: If they keep the old Aqua-scrollbars, why are iTunes and iPhoto the only apps with different scrollbars? That doesn't make sense to me....

I think we all have to wait until Friday and let's hope that they will change the scrollbars and other old Aqua-Elements.

leopard is confused with its identity. lol. it needs to "come out" and go back to the classic "rainbow" days. I rest my case :P

jk.

#477441

^...and I'll shoot you in the head if I see rainbow colored Leopard prancing around.... damn !! :P

#477449

I just watched the guided tour. Thanx for emailing it to me John.

I wonder how big the external HD needs to be for TM. I guess it depends on how far you want to go back.

#477453

I think it also depends on how big the internal HDD is. If you have an iMac with 500GB, then the external drive needs to have at least 500GB, I guess...

#477466

lol i have a feeling the guided tours are marketing strategies rather than helpful tips

#477609

Off-course they are, Ronny. But I think they are great way of demo than just article with screenshots.

yeah I'd shoot myself too.

Hello Aqua-Soft. First time poster here, patiently waiting until I can "switch"... Does anyone know where I might find "Nichole's" stone desktop wallpaper?

Either wait for Leopard, or try requesting it here. (Yes, I know, it's not an icon. but go for it.)

By the way, welcome... I'm the much cooler and mature of the newsposters.

#477741

Thanks. I guess it probably is a Leopard specific desktop.

#477743

The icons are more likely to be replaced. Just compare the ones that you see on the leopard website (like the Finder and iChat) with the ones in the demo (screenshots) of the current leopard.

Congratulations Timan for making and posting that pic, only to have it explode around the web to TUAW, Daring Fireball, MacRumors, and more!

#477849

Kyle: I didn't get the meaning of that picture. Can you explain it please?

#477858

Timan made a screenshot of how to make the dock not 3D in Leopard.

That said screenshot happened to explode around the internet. Note the terminal user "Tim".
