Haha, I find that Ubuntu looks very good with Lokheed's stuff. Lokheed makes the best stuff for linux, as does Thrynk if you're into minimalism. As for this, downloading right now, but servers seem to be definitely overwhelmed

Yeah, I gave up on doing an upgrade and I'm just downloading the alternate ISO via Bittorrent.
Geez, I hope it works with 256MB of RAM.. The release info said 358MB of RAM, but the guys on #ubuntu said that 256MB will work fine if I don't use Compiz Fusion.
Is there anyway to enable 3d effects on any of these virtual machine apps? I have a computer to install this on but I'm too lazy to hook it up and would rather just mess with the stuff on my imac.
Or is there a "non-destructive" way of installing this via bootcamp?

It's a live CD, so should work without any problem.
Enabling the restricted driver you can have 3d effect.
I'm using it on my macbook, better than mac osx!

still you have to admit the 3d effects look real cool.... try finding a nice theme here http://www.gnome-look.org/

I'm really interested in getting going with this, but (like with feisty) the live CD will not boot on my computer. I hear sounds, but my screen is just blue with weird numbers/letters across it.
I've tried burning multiple discs at very slow speeds, checked md5 and everything...I think its got to have something to do with my hardware.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to get Feisty going when it came out and had the exact same problem, so it didn't work for me, either.
I get the Ubuntu initial splash, the loading bar, then blue screen whammy....

Hmm... I think its ugly, but not so much due to the colours but rather the general theme.
Orange and Brown can work... I mean the actual website doesnt look too bad. Nice on the eye imho.
And theres No shortage of brown/grey/green/orange or oddly coloured themes for mac osx that look good... like pulsar, v23, muku, cuppacino, camino...
its just Linux folk dont know how to theme well
I got it working now, really nicely too. First one (besides 6.06 LTS) to work out-of the box. (Feisty hated my computer..)
FYI: For those doing a fresh install, unplug your Ethernet/disconnect your wireless. Or else it will get stuck trying to scan the overwhelmed mirrors.
I'm using it now, it's pretty cool, not a groundbreaking update from 7.04, but still good. I'm still waiting on ATI and those damn drivers, I want to see what everyone says about Compiz Fusion!

I beg to differ.
For my computer, 7.10 is a HUGE upgrade from 7.04. My wireless worked (kind of) out of the box and my USB ports are detected and display works on resume. Sadly, I can't run Compiz Fusion..
Hats off to the Ubuntu team for releasing a solid version.
I remember last time I used ubuntu there was some app I could run that installed a bunch of (not exactly legal)stuff, like fonts, codecs for dvd and stuff.
Any idea what its called or how I can go about getting codecs and stuff setup correctly?

The program is Automatix, but people don't recommend it because it can mess up your sources list. (or something like that)
But Add/Remove Applications, Show All available applications, then search "Ubuntu restricted extras" should install all that for you.
//EDIT: Looks like ubuntu-restricted-extras didn't quite seem to work. Does anybody have any suggestions?

open the disk in xp (not autoplay) and there is an install program (wubi-cdboot.exe) it'll install in the c: and put a bootloader on xp startup, so you can preview it off an ntfs formatted drive with no partitioning. Also, everytime you boot xp it'll ask you if you want to uninstall ubuntu, which is irritating.
Then try the alternate installation method.
OK, I got the alternate disk and installed to 2nd partition on hda....now when i try to boot into it, it hangs up at "Starting powernowd"
Tried googling the problem but haven't been able to find a solution....
