Depends on who you ask. ;)

Also, what is it going to be used for?

Looks like overkill for the typical user.

A majority of that systems capabilities are going to sit idle 99% of the time.

That is a waste of $$$.

Why? That seems a bit OTT if you ask me. What do you do on that thing, to make all the cash wasted on the machine viable? If you ask me that was a bit of a waste unless you do something like major program research and have searching programs ect . . . all running at once?

"More money than sense" as the saying goes . . .

There is always a fine line between What you NEED and What you WANT.

may be not the 'best system' for sound. I've been dreaming about the following:

silent pc case (fanless. case is the heatsink, with heatpipes to cpu, by Zalman)

prosound card

real amps (Krell)

real speaker system (McIntosh)

Blu-ray dual layer burner

40" or more LCD HDTV display with digital input

full touch sensitive MIDI controller

leather reclining chair with shiatsu massage :)

This kind of Apple configurations are extreme, this machines are fastest ones that you can buy right now, this systems are really good in terms of durability, meaning that you can keep upgrading the Mac OS and have all of your favorite current apps and then future apps, without upgrading, its an exellent Apple Mac system! It will last long, there`s also a rumor that they may upgrade the Mac Pro line, with 32GM of RAM, now, if you get that 32GB system, your system will not need any upgrades until maybe the year 2015! :)

Thats the art of Apple Computer.
