(Hopefully this is the right forum for this)
I have an out-dated, dying, messy iPod right now. And with the release of the classics, I thought, "16o? Music AND portable harddrive!" But I've heard a lot of bad things about the new classics.
So:
Are the bad stories overblown? Is this most recent generation of iPods still cool and durable?
If not:
Any ideas on when the current generation of iPods will be updated?
And other thoughts or whatever you want to add.

I had a 5th generation 30gb iPod and now own an 80gb iPod classic (my 5th generation died just out of warranty).
I can tell you now, dont listen to the bad stories.
It has a flashier interface with more features, which looks good and enhances overall functionality and ease of use... but its not without its flaws. The new animations sometimes 'catch' or cause the ipod to freeze for a split second, often at the cost of smooth music playback especially during song changing.
I hope Apple will soon release a firmware/software update that will fix these issues, but theres certainly not going to be any new iPods soon. They've only just been released.
I would NOT let this put you off...they are definately the best iPod ever made (yes, even better than the 5th gen but not worth the $$$ to replace). I wouldnt recommend upgrading from a 5th generation iPod unless you need the additional storage capacity.
But if your iPod is 4th generation or earlier, then I'd definately consider a new classic.
Whats New?
- Bigger capacity (yet my 80gb is slimmer than the 30gb 5th gen)
- Flashier interface with "coverflow" and split screen which greatly enhances not only enjoyment but also functionaliy (try it out at the Apple store).
- The enclosure of the classic iPod is more hardy and scratch resistant too.
The new iPods also look very nice and feel 'familiar'- they're still an iPod thru and thru.
Well that explains it all really. My Mum has the new red iPod Nano and it is awesome I love it but dont put big movies on it as it fills up the memory really quickly and the screen isn't really big enough to watch them on anyway. Like the guy above said, go to an apple store (or a store that sells them) and ask for a tryout of one!

What bad stories have you heard? I'm curious.
I can't wait till to i buy my iPod Touch, just going to wait a couple of months for size to increase. Then I'm gunna sell the 4 iPods i have (yes, i'm serious) and earn up enough green to buy it 
I've just read some bad reviews on Amazon. That, and folks on some other message boards have said some negative things about the new iPod classics. So I wanted to make sure that they were just fussing over minor things and that if I were to get a new iPod it wouldn't, like, die in a month or something.
