Hello there aqua-soft community members, I am opening this topic for every one who likes the PowerPC proccesor, lets talk about PPC!
(Please, If you dont like PPC, have something agaist it or anything negative about it, please do not post in this topic, thank you)
It's a dead processor that has been relegated to the gaming world.
Even Apple is not going to continue writing code for it very soon.

I think this will be a rather boring topic with nothing to debate about if we aren't allowed to say anything negative about the subject. I don't have anything against PPC but I just think that it was time for Apple to move on and the only thing keeping them behind Windows were the the boundries set by PPC. As people would say "get over it" there is nothing that you or the minority of PPC lovers can do about the fact that the era of Apple and PPC is coming to an end. And anyway, how has the transition from PPC to Intel actually affected you, as far as I can see it I got a more powerful Mac for about the same price?

I agree. I think they said that for several reasons, one being that they didn't want to get inundated with people saying bad things about it, which is really inevitable

Well said! Apple gave Freescale PLENTY of time to fix the PPC's problems, but they fell on deaf ears, so Apple switched. Boo-hoo-ho. Apple is about cutting edge technology, not yesterdays technology. Having said that our PPC Mac mini still works good. PPC was great in its day, but that day has come and gone. Not Apples fault. Even Freescale knows that

I think the intel systems are just going to be trouble for Apple.
PPC was good because it used less pipeline stages than intel, and people could not run Mac OS 10 on a PC, now they can... some times, there`s no need to run Windows on a Mac, because of the commom sence reason; Mac OS is better...
BTW, apple moved away from PPC, because Motorola quited on PPC, and IBM made a crappy job at the G5, BELIEVE ME, if AIM (Apple-IBM-Motorola alliance) was back, and Apple dint switch to intel, there would be a PPC G6 all over macs by now, true fact. Apple would be toasting the intel proccesor once agian!
Freescale didn't make the G5.. that was IBM and they refused Apple's requests to boost performance. Freescale made the G4 chips under license from IBM and Motorola.
It wasn't until Sony and Microsoft wanted to use the G5 tech in their gaming systems that IBM boosted the G5's performance.
In short... Apple didn't order enough chips to make it worth the development effort.
IBM has sold more G5 processors to Microsoft than they ever did to Apple.
As for the Intel systems... I'd like to know what "trouble" you think they are going to give Apple.
They've been very profitable for them, and that's what this is all about... $$$$$$ shitloads of it.
And don't start the fan boy, Mac OS is better banter. It doesn't fly.
Those statements are a matter of personal preference, not fact.
I dig OS X, but I also dig Windows. Each of them serves a purpose for me.

Every website developer will tell you that you're crazy because they need to make sure that their sites work with every browser, not just Safari Before the Intel Macs came along they needed two seperate computers to do this. Now they need only one, a Intel Mac. Plus not to mention that Apple switching to Intel was just good bussiness sense because it allowed peecee users to switch to a Mac more easily. Since the switch to Intel, Macs market share has been steadily climbing. Isn't that what's really most important?

you do know windows has some extreme problems inside it, for example DLL hell... and thats just scratching the surface... I would buy macintosh for Mac OS, not for windows...

And why exactly should any website developer care about that? They are only interested in seeing their sites work on every browser, not how educated those who visit their sites are

Yeah it is kind of 'bass ackwards' but some people have no choice. What if where you work uses nothing but peecees and you have to bring your work home? With a Intel Mac you'd only need one computer instead of having a Mac and a peecee. I just wish that OS X could be used on peecee's (without any extensive modification).

Some of us more rational people realize it's a piece of hardware that serves a purpose.
Who makes it is really not the point. How well it works is.
And why shouldn't Windows be used on Macintosh hardware. it's the EXACT same hardware that's in a PC. You think the label on the outside makes it more special?
