Change Folder Icon

I have the a set of icons, in .ico, png format and I'm running windows. I just want to know how to changed a folder's (my download folder) icon. Mabye I'm an idiot and just can't figure it out. But please anyone can you tell me how to change an icon. I have icon workshop, and also a prgram called "changed folder icon". And I still can't do it. So please, anyone.

For individual icons maybe check out FolderIco under community application releases and for themes look for IconPhile, IconTweaker or IconPackager(payware).

umm...well. right click the folder>personal>customize>change icon. navigate to the .ICO file and select it. Hit apply and ok, and you're done.

Thank you so much for you quick replys. I used IconWorkshop, and I was able to change the icon for the C: drive. But for indivial folders like contacts I can't change them. Icon Workshop says it has changed them but nothing happens. SirSmiley, I have search the forum that's how I found out about iconworkshop, but it only seems to be changing some icons. I can't changed folder icons. Again, that you so much for you fast reply's.

I noticed something, for regular folders that I create I have a new button I can click. It says change icon:

But for folder that windows created when I instlaled Vista I don't have that option:

How can I change this?

If you don't want to use a separate program than Virtual Plastic will gives detailed instructions on specific registry keys

Edit: That's AveDesk which has it's own subforum here.

Or if you mean in the Explorer than check out IconTweaker which can change Icon Sizes.

Be prepared for you program menu to look like crap though.

I tried Icontweaker but it doesn't like Vista. Neither does Styler. Is there other program that can do the same thing as styler but for vista? And thanks for the tip on Virtual Plastic I'll check that out.
