Color Picker App for OS X

Yeah, I know that OS X comes with the DigitalColor Meter, but, it's too bulky and doesn't stay on top of other programs.

Yeah, I know about xScope, but there's also other crap that makes a large footprint in my resources.

Yeah, I know that there are tons of Color Palette add-ons. But they require dependence on other applications, and I can't switch back and forth between various browsers, text editors, and PhotoShop with it still being there.

I just want a lightweight, independent, small non-intrusive, floating color picker. I've scoured Apple.com downloads, MacUpdate and VersionTracker with nothing but the aforementioned Color Palette add-ons.

Here's a mock-up of something similar I want:

I'm hoping that someone know of something similar.

There is a program called Pipette. I forget where I found it but I'm sure if you google it it will show up.

Pixie, as a part of Developer Tools.

I don't know if Pixie will run if you don't have the rest of Developer Tools installed, but you can try it out...especially since Developer Tools is such a large download.

I have the Developers Tools installed, and didn't notice this. Terrible icon. Locking the image is good, but having to do it just to get the values is annoying. The one in Tiger gives out a decimal of the color, which would just have me to do more work to convert it in my head.

Doesn't stay on top. :( But its probably the best option at this point.

Thanks guys.

C'mon! Where is the Delicious Generation when you need them!

I saw the subject and thought I'd post. I've just released a beta version of a Hex / RGB / HSL color picker I've been developing:

http://www.criticalmatter.com/colorpickerpro/

The only requirement is that you're running Mac OS X 10.4.x. Here's a short blurb about the app:

Color Picker Pro is a small drag and drop savvy application that aids in finding hex, RGB and HSL color values for use in CSS and HTML production. Pull colors out of application windows, icons, your desktop or anything else that you happen to see on your display. Copy or drag and drop color values to your favorite text based CSS or HTML editing application. Store your frequently used colors, undo and redo color changes or make your colors web-safe at the press of a button. Tailor the format of your hex, RGB or HSL color values to your personal specifications.

If you'd like to try it out, please do. I'm looking for both positive and negative feedback, suggestions, etc.... FWIW, I am also working on a secondary app that is more what you describe... A much more simple, floating app without some of CPP's features. It's not ready for public consumption as yet unfortunately!

I just wanted to say thanks to those of you here who have helped test and provided feedback over the last couple of weeks. I've just released Color Picker Pro b8 which works well on Leopard!

Thanks again.
