VMWare Fusion - Viruses?

Welcome to my sweet thread, not really! I have a question for all you Mac Geniuses out there.

If I buy VMWare Fusion, If my Windows Operating Environment should get a virus, and I was running Fusion, with Unity, can My Mac Operating Environment get infected, now that Mac OS has Fusion to Run EXE files. I figured that it would only affect the Windows Kernel and environment, But I wanted to make sure with you guys before I make assumptions.

No, the virus is designed to affect the Windows kernel and files. The exe files are not being run directly by the Mac OS but the emulated VMware system so there's no need to worry.

Theres not may virus for the mac anyway and generally (I may be wrong) but windows viruses shouldn't effect your mac anyway.

So now, same deal if I got CrossOver? It wont affect my mac? Because CrossOver doesn't need to have Windows installed, so it looked like a better product.

If Im im reading this right then you shouldn't be connected to the internet through any windows programs meaning you wont get windows viruses, unless you download IE (why?) but I doubt you will lol.

I'd suggest you go with VMware, esp. if you have decent machine. That way you get to run all win apps as well make use of the OS specific functionality while Crossover will only run apps that are compatible with it. I've heard good stuff about VMWare Fusion from a friend who uses it on Linux, so go ahead and opt for it. Even if you do connect to the net through a Windows browser such as IE, the only place a virus will be able to infect would be the virtualised area of the system (something that Crossover also posseses), no Windows virus is going to infect your Mac or even a Linux machine.

Thanks. This makes me feel more secure when I get my Mac and Windows. (I need it for certain programs I can't lose. Some are REQUIRED for school, like Books on CD and etc.)

That is correct. You could get viruses through your e-mail for example, and they could be on your hard drive, BUT they will do no harm to your computer. However, that doesn't mean that if you send that e-mail to someone using a PC that they won't be effected by the virus. In other words, you can pass viruses with your Mac, but they won't harm you in any way
