First off when you click on an image in OSX what is the default app to open most images and what does it look like? Where can I get some good screenshots of lots of default OSX programs?
Now as for my idea on an image viewer. Why doesn't someone make an image viewer like iSaw, with no window or anything. You could just double click your image, it opens without a border or window controls around it, then you could just right click to dismiss it or something.

And Id like to remind everyone, that no app is 'easy' to make. Unless your using a BASIC langauge.

Well, this app would be very easy to make. One form, GDI+ and ur ready to go
I would have to agree with Siwu. This is exactly how my Comics Docklet works!
Just remove the skinning, compile it as a stand-alone app, add mouse/key control handlers and associate it with all image types, then you'll end up with the app.

well there's a program called irfanview that some people call iview, so that's what made me think of iSee
Yeah it sounds great. It wouldnt need any controls, only couple of features.
1. Fullscreen on double-click
2. close on right-click
3. next/previous image with arrow keys
This sounds like it could be a really neat and handy app for image viewing... perhaps as additional keys, + and - would respectively zoom in and out of the image...
Also, what is it with the million iName ideas that always spring up when a new app is being considered? Not even all Apple applications start with an i... Safari, Finder, Sherlock just to name a few.. I mean, come on people, can we not get more creative than "i"+"Word"?

@ Cerebral: What does it matter if people put forward an idea? The reason I like the iXXX names is because it makes them easily distinguishable from my normal Windows apps, and also keeps them all together in the Program Files directory, making it easier to keep tabs on your Mac emulation software.

I am taking a stake on the ground to do this! Its going to be called "QView" (Quick View). However, the development work on this will be very slow ... but I'll try my best to finish it ASAP.
I am not sure I like the "No Border" idea, though... what about a 1 pixel border with 1 color or something of the sort? What about images with transparencies? Do the transparencies become see throughs? If so, don't we need some sort of border to give us an idea the area/size of the window?

Definately have a 1 pixel border (silver or something). With two shades of grey you can even give the border an etched look.
No border at all looks unprofessional and *too* basic imho.
I like the idea of it being just like iSaw, but for images and you can associate it with images. And the no-controls thing ads to the niceness of the app...I get so tired of funky buttons everywhere, but computers on movies work mostly off of keyboards and I think that is cool.
I like the control ideas too:
Double Click = Fullscreen (Alt-Enter)
Right Click = Close Image (Esc)
(+ & -) = Zoom in/Zoom out
Arrow Keys = Next/Previous Image
Personally I'd be happy with just the first 2 options though. I don't want a big feature rich application...just a simple program that pops up with no border, or a very tiny border, and shows my image when I double click it. Any of you guys remember the Sub7 image viewer thingie? It's sorta like that.

It's a borderless window with shadow support taken from an OSX screenshot.
I just thought of a feature that I would find SO useful. You see, when you open images with alpha transparency, in just about any image viewer app, it won't show transparent areas, or will show some thick black border.
So what I would love is the real transparency in those images - like, so I can see the desktop through that image. Of course, this feature would be optional.
And the app should detect if the image has that alpha channel, for not taking too much resources when viewing images with no alpha.
So, how 'bout this, huh? (Y)
