1 like stated.. is it possible? must i change my external harddisk as /boot for it to work?
i know about bios and i can line usb harddisk to the top. but not sure if it works... so.... does it work?
2 oh yea just wanna ask if anyone has acer laptops? apparently the way the install operating system (windows xp media centre, windows xp, windows vista) by copying the image to the c drive.. no xp or vista installation required.
will it be possible to make 2 boot drives with these?

ok.... so i got two operating system. vista and windows i kind of needed both. And dont really want to dual boot. so what i think i can do is to try booting a operating system from an external harddisk.
what will i need to do to achieve that? i know about bios and can change the boot list sequence.
i'm pretty sure that's all you need, make sure Vista is installed properly on the external HDD and just change the boot sequence and boot from it.

so.. any i just copy and paste my c drive which is my boot drive? because apparently installation of vista and windows xp is entirely different when using acer laptops. they gave you cd images which basically copy and paste the windows things to c drive.
so will it still be possible?
hmm, when you pop in the installation DVD or CD, it doesn't give you the option to choose which drive you want it installed on?

errr. yup. basically you pop you acer backup disk into it.. and it says. (insert backup disk 1), when you insert it... they kina start putting all the stuff into c drive. so can i copy and paste my c drive to a external drive and boot thru it? assuming that i have changed the bios
What i understand is that you want to copy the Windows directory folder onto your external HD and boot from it? I've always actually wondered this myself, but i don't think it's possible because files rely on other files to work properly. For example, if program.exe calls for a file on C:ProgramsFiles and it's not there, it will fail. This might be the same case.
i dont support this, but I know it works: do everything you guys are saying, than use tweakUI and change the drive letter which will rerout everything..(acers a douche like that, I saguest going to your local computer store and picking up a keyless version of windows, or downloading a trail version) than add external into the boot order, and mess around in computer->properties->systemsettings->advance->startup->settings to arange your boot order and time,
but why? do you know how slow your computers going to be if it even works at all? theres no real commitment in dual booting, it saves a ton of work, if you have an external than space isnt an obstical... just partition up your drives, and use your external for multimedia storage,
