Just had an interview..

Well I just finnished having an interview a few hours ago.

I think I've had about 4 or 5 interviews in my life!

the place was empty as everyone had gone to lunch, so it felt abit more welcoming as there were only two people there.

as they'd only moved into the building a weeks ago there worried about the plasma screen on the down stairs wall they have, as the front door has no pin pad or intercome! just a deadlock so they leave it open for the most part.

anyway I went ok till he asked me about the wages..sugar! I asked what was the going rate for someone in the same postion and he hit me with a re-bound of

"depends on experience!" crud

anyway, I left knowing i looked smarter than there whole team! as they were all in jeans and t-shirts =p

I have another interview on wednesday. luckerly I'm been interviewed with a women i'v e worked with before on many occasions. but as she is nolonger a shop manager and something higher up I don't she her much, and she's leaving at the end of the month i think.

it should be a much easier interview though.

There's lot's of ways to deal with the "experience" issue. When this has been an issue I've always negotiated a decent starting salary to give a brief period of demonstrating my skills then have a three month review/agreement to increase my income to where it should be. It's always worked.

Once a boss tried to back pedal on it and I handed my resignation on the spot without two weeks notice since he broke the agreement. He called me at home to set up meeting for the next day and I made him pay an additional 15% on top of our agreement. You've got to be pretty certain of your value to the business before you do that.

Wow, that shows a lot of confidence in yourself! I agree, you need to be able to pull it off, and make sure you're worth it.

Not so much confidence in my self as in my abilities.

Guess, I should point out that tactic works best in older style positions and when the mgr/president is one of the owners. You need to know your place in the food chain!

That was a Purchasing Agent position and I'd already made the owner twice my salary in mftr rebates plus cut the shipping/brokerage costs from 5% to 1.5%.
