Man, I am so depressed :-(

Ever thought about looosing your whole collection of Icons, Wallpapers, Videos, Music, emulators and computer games,everything!?

Well it just happened to me, I'm now back with my old XP, just thinkin of my amazing desktop back then, huge icon collection, some unreleased icons and mods, I''m depressed just thinking of finding all those icons again. Oh and the music, I mean i just brought a 500 GB drive, why didn't I back it up?

Well I was experiencing difficulties with my internet, and decided to reformat, but I forgot to backup and kinda just remembered half way, I guess my problems were fixed (smooth internet, working keyboard and I have all my PSP games still here) but I have new ones now, any ideas if there is a way I can get my stuff back? (unlikely) or a fast way to download all the icons, wallpapers and visual styles? Man I'm really depressed.

uhm, i think there's a way to get SOME stuff back...i don't know how. and no there is no quick way to download all of your last material, because no one knows your library.

but seriously man, how did you NOT remember to back everything up? were you high?

See I went to vaio recovery, I wasnt reading properly because I acually wanted to use the thing where u can go back to a previous state, instead I pressed reformat and well, I couldn't stop it, I got a windows cannot be booted screen when i shut off the pc while its formating to attempt to stop it, which scared the heck outta me, but I got that solved.

It was over 2 years of collecting, man do I feel depressed right now.

Though he should of course have had a backup system in place, this man doesn't need to be remonstrated right now. He needs sympathy!

That does suck. I make a note that, everytime I had to format my XP machine (and there were a lot), to make a list of every single piece of software on there, all of the drivers. I also backed (nearly) everything up. I did once lose a massive font collection (3000+ typefaces), but that was OK, because now I've whittled it down to just 400 or so.

Enough of my rambling. Cheer up. It could be a lot worse. Do you still have the CDs of the music you lost?

Always keep things that are dear to you on a seperate drive and/or partition. My Music and icons are always in my D: drive.

Make a partition, so that you can reformat all you like without having to worry about backing up over and over again.

Yea, I need to tell this to someone, my friends don't even care about the Icons and Wallpapers, I'm currently going through every page of dock icons in deviantart to download as many as I can find, then the aquasoft icon request forum then release, then wallpaper request and releases, then visual styles, ahh man, there goes my weekend. I'm more concerned about the NFR icons

And no my burner is messed up, no backup music, no nothing, all I have is about 70 GB of PSP games.

I certainly learned my lesson.

Oh yea and the themes (for like avedesk, object dock and yahoo widgets), and all the programs have to be downloaded again, sigh.

But my computer is very fast right now!

Write a note somewhere that you need to back up. Back up your stuff regularly.

On my drive everything that don't have to be in Documents and settings, Program files or Windows folder is on a separate partition or drive. I even changed the location of the My documents folder so I can always format the windows partition safely.

Yea I didn't even mean to reformat it, I just wanted to restore it to a previous state.

Once I tried to restore my system,and I finished up with reinstalling windows, so thanx but no more restore for me.

Herd do you just wait for the perfect posts to comeup to reply . Same thing happened to me, got a nice lil message saying "error reading operating system" after countless removal of a hd and putting it in another pc, i just installed Vista >_> But yea it sucks, lol but not as bad as to be depressed

Lol, same thing happened to me to Austin. Couldn't boot into Windows, had no computer to stick the hd in so I just reformatted. Never occured to me to boot the PartedMagic LiveCD and try to grab the files from there...
